An interview with sandyjstimson,
1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
I have been interested in photography for a long time but didn't do much about it until digital. Ten years ago two things happened, affordable digital cameras made a big jump forward in quality and I got my first granddaughter. She was so prefect I just had to take lots of photos. I also invested in Adobe Photoshop and proceeded to learn how to correct my photos. I used the 'automatic' program setting on the camera all the time at first.
2) Have you had any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
I have no formal training but have taken several on line classes. I took an Ed2go class on Adobe Photoshop. I had to take it twice because I had no idea how to do a class on line. I was successful the second time. I have now taken advanced classes with them. I have also taken classes with ProudPhotograghy. I like taking portraits mostly of my family but lately friends and their families are asking me to take their portraits. Sooo .what to charge is beginning to come into my vocabulary. So far people just contribute towards an L lens which I am saving for.
3) What inspired you to take your winning shot?
The inspiration for my winning shot came from my granddaughters. I wanted to have a historic photo of their work. Since we were decorating the house for Halloween it was easy to set up the photo.
4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup?
I used what was around me for this photo. The camera is a Canon EOS Digital Rebel 400D, lens is a Canon prime 50.0mm/f1.8. I set the camera for f/5.0 ISO 100. There was no flash. I tried lighting all three of the long candles but it was too bright. I didn't need to do much photoshop on this just removed some lent.
5) Would you change anything if you could do it again?
Right now I wouldn't change a thing on my photo if I were to do it again. I'm sure more experienced photographers could offer some suggestions and I would welcome that.
6) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
Good question, what would I do if I wasn't into photography? I love making pictures on the computer from my photos, maybe I would still do that but use other peoples' photos. I would still travel and probably go back to sewing and knitting. Since the photography bug bit me I have no time for those two activities.
7) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
I have posted on facebook and also have some albums on Picasa. Posting photos and albums is new to me so I am looking for some ideas on what is the best way to show my favorite photos.
