Depends. If your camera has a good range (higher) of ISO settings, the difference won't be much. Consider, too, the type of phoyos you shoot. The more expensive lens is capable of lower light shots.

Yeah, I don't think the $1,000 is worth it for the times I may need it for lower light. I have a Canon 100mm 2.8 I can use in a bind.

It's a LOT bigger and you'll need a tripod for it.

I'm trying to decide to buy a 70-200 is usm 4.0 or a 70-200 is usm 2.8. There's about $1,000 in price difference between the 2. Is the 2.8 worth the difference?

Wedding photogs use this lens frequently without tripods and an extra stop of light can sometimes mean making the shot or not. Waiting it out with the 300 mail in rebate now could give a price less than 2000.00.

A tripod helps with a lot of lenses but it really is not necessary with a 70-200mm lens. Many, myself included, shoot this lens freehand.

I rarely use the IS though because I try to keep my SS at 1/1000 or better. It is not always possible but unless it drops below 1/400 I don't bother with the IS. In fact, I often forget I have it.

This lens is now on for 1899.00 plus 4% back through B&H which is 1823.04. Yes this is a 2.8 :) This lens has never been this cheap new.

To change the subject, I just posted a message indicating that I was considering upgrading mtg 60D to a 7D. I shoot grandchildren primarily and some wildlife/landscape photography. I'm looking for some thoughts.
