Anyone have thoughts about the Nikon 1 J2 or J3?
The camera's simplicity, yet versatility, appeals to me. Would I be making a mistake? Price is very assuredly an object!

I think they are ranked in the 25 range..there appears to be an issue with the J3 ranking, as it should be higher than the J2...

take it with a grain of salt. Personally, I'd opt for an olympus, sony or panasonic mirrorless camera. They've been focusing (ha, ha) on mirrorless a lot longer than nikon and canon (especially canon).

It depends on what you're going to use it for. If the Nikon 1 is your second camera, a nice compact device that's light and easy to carry around when you don't want to lug your big heavy SLR I think it's ok.

On the other hand if this is going to be your primary camera or your only camera, I'd think about it for a while.

If you're just going to do snapshots and maybe a bit of artistic stuff it's ok. But if you have a real passion for photography it's inevitable that you're going to move up to an SLR eventually. And when you do move up, the stuff you've bought for the Nikon 1 you'll be buying again for the SLR.

In my books in this case I'd rather go for an entry level SLR so I can slowly add lenses and other stuff that I can capitalize on later as I continue to upgrade the camera body. Entry level SLRs like the Nikon 3200 and 5200 are not much thicker or heavier than the Nikon 1 and they allow you to grow in the longer term.

Just curious, do they make lenses for that camera beyond 110mm?

An excellent choice is one of the mirrorless cameras.
My Sony NEX6 is a pleasure to carry around. Although not much larger than a pocket camera and light in weight, it will do all that a camera three times it's size, will do.

8-) I went from Panasonic point and shot to a g5 4/3.infact I owned 4 Panasonic p and s before the G5.The difference is fantastic the photos are great for far less investment then canon and Nikon.the lens selection for the 4/3 is good for what I shot if you need more then you have to go to adaptors for other make lens.what ever floats your boat and what you wish to invest .photography is like any hobby they all cost money but it sure is lots of fun.
