After reading the recent messages about the advantages of attaching a sling type strap to the tripod mount of a camera as opposed to one of the normal strap attachment points I looked into the Op/Tech system to replace my Blackrapid R7. From what I can tell the Op/Tech system doesn't provide storage space in the strap itself which I really like about the R7. My solution is to order the shortest Op/Tech connectors and add them to the R7. This leaves the camera hanging a bit lower than I might like, but I believe the strap length can be adjusted with time.
I also experimented with using the right and left strap mounts on the camera. I found that I like using the left mount best. This way as I raise my hand it naturally goes to the camera grip and the connector is away from camera controls.
I hope this may spark some other ideas and suggestions.

For storage OpTech makes Battery Holsters and Media Holsters that attach to their straps. Very handy.
I saw the battery and media holsters while looking at OpTech, but I wasn't too sure about how they would attach and stay in place. My R7 has plenty of storage so far and I was looking at a way to improve on something I am reasonably satisfied with. I don't think there is a total right or wrong here since we will have different preferences.

I have also switched from a BR system to a hybrid using OpTech lug attachment (
http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-153779-13.html#2613380 ). I have used both lugs because of the added support AND because my camera hangs more naturally for me. I should also note that I utilize the "Brad" under-arm strap because the extra connector allows the main strap to slip more easily, but I had actually used the under-arm strap earlier because I like the stability.
I often disconnect the right lug connection when actively shooting when I use the Op/Tech single sling strap. It gets in the way otherwise. Especially when I shoot in portrait orientation. When I use my 2.8 70-200 lens, I attach it's tripod mount to the second connection with a Op/Tech connector, the one that comes with the dual harness. I loop it around the mount which allows me to mount it on a tripod without parts in between that diminish stability.
Did my first event with my new Optech dual harness and like it so far. Much easier on neck and the fact that you can carry two camera's. One thing I will have to work on is when I use the camera on my left side, the strap on the right lug gets in the way. Like JB just stated, portrait mode would be a problem as well. Will be ordering the additional packs that clip to the harness for batteries, etc.
If you searched previous blogs, you will see many recommendations not to, not to, not to carry your camera via the tripod socket.

I neglected to mention that, by using both strap lugs, I am able to remove the BR connectors and attach the camera directly to an OpTech binocular harness.

I used a Blackrapid R7 for several months and went back to the more customary neck strap. With the sling strap, I was constantly banging my camera on things.
