I don't mind either. I believe a strong economy is based on strong local business and this levels that playing field a little.
By Tax Code in all states with a Sales Tax, there is a corresponding Use Tax. For any purchase where the seller does not collect the "Sales" tax, the Buyer (User) of the item owes their state the "Use" tax on those items. Due to the difficulty of tracking these purchases the states have been unable to fairly collect those "unreported" transactions.
I used to work at a company where we collected the Sales/Use Taxes in over 44 states PLUS the local taxes which in some states numbered in the hundreds (County, City, Transit District, Judicial District, etc). I look forward to the day when ALL merchants in the online world are REQUIRED to collect the proper taxes for ALL locations to which they ship product for their customers. In this day and age of computers, it really isn't that difficult to get the programming done to accomplish this.
