Welcome. I have the p510 and luv the features that work for me...42x zoom, video, etc. Why not consider keeping the d60 if your budget would allow it. The main con for the p510 is no PC connection for remote flash capability. Upgraded to the D5100 for that. I'm sure other Hoggers will opine on this. ;-)

Thanks for the quick reply. I want to keep the D60, but, someone else has other ideas. So, I probably will trade. She has aa nice little point & shoot as a backup, so I probably will trade - providing I don't feel I'm getting screwed! Again, thanks for the insight.

Also, the p510 does not accept filters. I got around this by using an extension tube made for this camera. See this post: http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-116398-1.html

The P520 would be a worthy consideration, but if you are not set on staying with Nikon, I would suggest you consider the Canon SX50 for about the same price. The SX50 has hot shoe for external flash when needed, can store photos in 'raw' format, has 50x zoom, provision for a Remote Release, etc. Plus it has a fully articulating LCD that lets us 'older folk' get pictures from many viewpoints that our knees no longer let us get to! And the SX50 does have an electronic view finder so you can hold it the same as any previous SLR.

Thanks - I definitely will lok into that. I am somewhat limited in what I can do, this sounds like it has quite a few. Nice features that Nikon does not

When I was first looking to upgrade from a pocket P&S to a 'bridge' camera I was very close to buying the Nikon P510. Then I got to looking at some of the others and even though the Canon SX40 had a shorter zoom I bought it because of the LCD movements and the hot shoe. The new SX50 added to the zoom, plus the remote release and raw capture.

Wahawk makes good arguments for the SX50 and the images posted from all the Hoggers that own one have been super. Even I, a dyed in the wool Nikon man, would have seriously consider the SX50 had it been available. If you have a chance to get your hands on both, that sometimes helps with your decision. ;-) Keep us posted.

The SX40/SX50 cameras have a filter adapter available for either 58mm or 67mm filters. I purchased several of the 67mm ones (metal) and have them essentially permanently mounted on the couple filters that I do use.

Welcome to the Hog Ed. Good luck with your decision. Both cameras being discussed are good choices. ;)

I have the P520. I normally shoot with a D7000

PROS :The 42X zoom makes it a very good walk about camera. The quality of the shots if you get the settings right are very good. The flexibility of the articulated screen is very useful. Some of the shooting effect programs are excellent to use (selective colour mode etc). Shoots very good video.

Cons. I hate the digital viewfinder, the image I see through mine is quite shaky and does not appear very clear. If you shoot via the screen mode it runs away with batteries only about 40 shots to a battery so you need to purchase spares (they are reasonably cheap). It only shoots in jpeg format (I normally shoot raw)

Overall it is a nice camera but for me I find it a step backwards from my usual DSLR. I bought it so that I could keep it in my car so that I always had a camera to hand.

Hope this helps you.
