Haven't post any birds over here in a long time. Recently my efforts for locating Eagles has paid off. Just need more time with them as it's all about the lighting and mother nature was not so kind this Saturday. Nothing like early mourning low clouds and contrasty light to set the mood. Maybe next weekend.
All shot with the Nikon D7000 and 70-300mm VR lens. Aperture priority.

Thanks,
Shot in aperture priority, F/8 with fixed ISO320 which let my shutter speed float between 1/500-sec to 1/1000-sec. Only one, the first photo shown, captured enough light to hit 1/1600-sec shutter speed.

Nice series! You definitely found a good spot. I need to visit Florida again so I can get close to the action again.
I really like #2, great action shot. Thanks for posing.

Goodness I wish, would love to capture one catching some sort of prey. He was coming in for landing.

#2 is a superior shot! I hope Vicksart takes note that this was shot with a 300mm lens. Thanks for posting!

I am planning to be in Florida in early December in the Vero Beach area. Any recommendations for places to photograph birds there?

Thanks,
Yes, I wish people would realize getting close to your subject gets the best results, no need to drag a 500mm lens into the field.
I've never been to Vero Beach, being from SW Florida and now living in Central Fl. but I did pull the google map up and seen your close to one of my Osprey Honey Holes. If you head inland on HWY60 you'll find Blue Cypress Lake, I think the best spot in the State of Florida if not the country to capture the Osprey. Small stunted cypress trees line the lake, from 5 ft. to 20 ft. In the cypress trees Osprey from around the country come here in droves to nest. You will never get this close to an Osprey anywhere else. Dec is a good month for the migrating birds. I'll find out if they rent canoes, but they do rent pontoon boats. Here are a couple of links showing you the action, all shot with the 70-300mm

birdpix, Merritt Island NWR is the best place in my opinion, only 1.5 hours north of Vero and very worth the drive. I live in Sarasota and make the trip at least once a year. Gary http://www.fws.gov/merrittisland/Birders.html
