Hi Flash, I like the effect and use a lot of that kind of thing myself. Your photo looks good but I think the background looks a little too bright and busy. One way I deal with that is to add a black or white vignette, either of which would gently subdue the background and keep eyes more on the bird. I use PSE11 and the vignette setting slider goes from 1 to 100. I was curious, so tried it with both black and white, and thought that a setting of 50 looked good. That's higher than I usually go but it looked nice to me. That's just one idea. There's always more than one way to skin a cat!

I like it. I also agree with Heirloom. The vignette should help bring the focus back onto the bird.

I'm not overly crazy about the painting effect as a rule but it does lend itself well in the this picture. Nice job. I guess there's a place for everything.
