Lost in UHH land

I just joined this Photography Forum and I am a little lost. What is the purpose of the tabs "My Pages" and "User Pages"? Most Tabs are self explanatory so my problem will be solved soon. One more though, when you start a new topic under Pictures to show your photo for others to see, does it mean that anyone can alter the photo or worse, add their photos to the topic and send the conversation in a different direction? Should I start a new topic when posting my photos or just hop into an existing topic? I appoligize if I am asking things that may seem elementary and have been covered but as I said I am new here and don’t yet know how to research this database.

First off, go to my profile (click my user name), and then read the two USER PAGES I have. They were done to help new users. Generally, it's best to start a new topic UNLESS the original poster of a topic makes it clear that s/he wants to see other's pictures as well. It is against board policy to edit another's pictures without express permission.

Thanks JimH. That was very quick and concise. You stated in your “rules”:
2) It's generally considered bad form to add your pictures to another person's post, especially if the subject matter is different. This is called "hi-jacking".
2b) as of 11/21/2011, it is against UglyHedgehog policy to EDIT another poster's picture(s) without his/her explicit permission. If you DESIRE edits, PLEASE STATE SO EXPLICITLY in your post, e.g. "Please feel free to edit". If you don't mind if any/all of your pics are edited, put that info in your profile SIGNATURE.

Now I have a request:
The topic was “ I need a hug” and although I did welcome comments, about the pictures I posted, I did not expect that the “Topic” would be Hi-Jacked.
Here is my request: Is it possible to remove the photo(s) not posted by me, and their comments, from the topic “I need a hug” and perhaps enter them under another topic?
I have my own reason for wishing the “topic” rule to be followed in this case.
Thank you.

Requests like that would need to be directed to the Admin person(s) who may or may not honor it, depending on policy.

Ordinarily, the best way to have unwanted pictures and/or comments would be to ask the person who added them to remove them but there doesn't seem to be a way to edit one's own posts once the send button is hit. On a board this size, it may be difficult for even the administrator to do it. It might be easier for you to repost with a similar but different heading, requesting that no other pictures be added.

Here's a thread from yesterday; it answers your first question ...

If you see something like that happening you might just want to step in before it gets too out of hand and tell the people what they are doing. Just say you have some nice pics there but I started this thread to have my pictures looked at and I would appreciate it if you didn't post your pics on here. If you feel it necessary, start a new thread and state that you wish to have your pics commented on and that others shouldn't post pics.

There are newbies on here who don't necessarily read the rules before they go posting on threads and so they may not realize its bad form to hi-jack a thread.
