An interview with windshoppe

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
I've taken photos all of my life, but got serious about it about 10 years ago, largely due to the advances in digital.

2) Have you had any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
I've had no formal training other than a few online classes. My primary interests are travel, wildlife, and landscape photography.

3) What inspired you to take your winning shot?
I had heard about this location and a fellow hogger gave me directions to the site prior to a trip to Vermont.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup?
Canon 5DII, 24-105 lens, Manfrotto tripod w/Acratech ballhead, umbrella.

5) Would you change anything if you could do it again?
The weather! It rained throughout the shoot.

6) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
I'd continue to travel, but would enjoy it far less.

7) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?

An interview with Bridges

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
I've been photographing since I was around twelve but really became serious about it in high school where we had a photo club. Most schools have a yearbook photographer and a school newspaper photographer but in our school photo requests would be left in a mailbox on the door of the darkroom and assignments would be given out by the club president.

2) Have you had any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
I have attended quite a few seminars through the years, but no formal training as in taking classes. I like a broad range of subjects from bugs to lighthouses and everything in between. Lately though I have become interested in doing more people photography. There are only so many lighthouses (that are within my immediate travel scope), and only so many different kinds of bugs, but every face is unique and every face tells a story. I want to tell that story in my images.

3) What inspired you to take your winning shot?
The light, with photography it's always about the light. The gentleman was lounging on a sofa with natural light falling on him from a high window. I supplemented that with a low power flash and came away with that image.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup?
Nikon D300 and most likely the 70 - 300 VR lens with no setup other than a low powered flash.

5) Would you change anything if you could do it again?
No it was a photograph taken in the moment and you can't really plan for things to come together in those circumstances.

6) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
Probably golf or woodwork. There was a time in my life when getting up and doing something on my day off was a real challenge. I couldn't decide whether to go golfing or head to the mountains to shoot streams and waterfalls. These days there is no indecision, I grab my cameras and head out. I work at a private country club that is listed by Links Magazine as one of the 100 best private clubs in the world. We have three championship courses and a six hole beginners course. Since I'm there five to six days a week, it's hard to get motivated to return there on Mondays (when the club is closed and staff can play the courses for free). I've played less golf since going to work there six years ago than anytime in the previous 30 years.

7) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
I'm in the process of setting up a website with Zen Folio but will not really have time to complete that project until perhaps January. If you go there you will get a message "site being built", or under construction, words to that affect anyway. If you type in my name Mike Brint into facebook, you will find I post a few images there.

An interview with plessner

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
I have been playing with cameras since the 80s

2) Have you had any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
\No training-took a class locally when I got my first "nice" camera--that too back in the 80s. I enjoy scenery and take most of my photos around our farm and of course of the grandkids! I also love to travel, and a good trip is when I get to spend the whole day with my camera in my hands!

3) What inspired you to take your winning shot?
I have photos of this lovely old tree in every season, but I did not have a fall one, so I had my daughter drive by it and check it out for me to see if it had any colored leaves. It is 30 miles away from me, near where she lives. So I went over the next morning and shot it as the leaves were falling like rain!

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup?
I used my Sony A65 with a sigma wide angel lens. I had stopped by the tree early in the am and the sun was still to low for the shot I had visioned, so I came back about and hour later and was happy then....

5) Would you change anything if you could do it again?
Not really

6) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
Photography is truly my hobby passion right now--we farm and I do a lot of crafts [which are my work] people tell my I should try and sell some of my photos--then it too would become work--and not nearly as much fun!

7) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
I plan to try and get a website put together this winter.
Thanks to every one who voted for my image--this was a tough competition this time and I am honored.

An interview with BHurley59

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
I have been into photography for about 10 years.

2) Have you had any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
I have had no training just read up on what I want to do and how to do it better. I like taking pictures of nature the most.

3) What inspired you to take your winning shot?
I was out at a local park as the sun came up reflecting off the colors of the trees onto the water with the wood duck there. Always looking for the more unique pictures to take.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup?
I have a Nikon D3200. no special setup that day.

5) Would you change anything if you could do it again?
I would have brought a cup of coffee but other than that would not have changed anything.

6) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
I did not know there is anything else out there to do.

7) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
Not at the moment.

An interview with zuke

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
Since I was about 8yrs old. Reading about the magic and wonder of developing your own negatives. Convinced my mom to buy me a Tri Chem Pack (anyone here remember those?) Converted our bathroom to a temporary darkroom, borrowed three pans from our kitchen, developed my first roll of film and I was hooked.

2) Have you had any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
No. Landscape, macro, nature

3) What inspired you to take your winning shot?
I love to go for drives out in the country and just be open to anything that "moves" me. I saw this shot and stopped dead in my tracks - good thing too because if I hadn't I would have driven through the leaves and ruined the shot.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup?
Nikon D5200. No amount of planning will ever replace dumb luck.

5) Would you change anything if you could do it again?
Ideally I would have liked to have been there 15 min sooner. The light and the mist change rapidly and both would have been better a little earlier

6) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
That's something I hope I never have to think seriously about.

7) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work
Not currently. I had over 150 photo of day wins at Shutterbugs.biz, but they, like a lot of sites have gone belly up.
