How do you all store your equipment? Is there a place that makes storage units specifically for the type of equipment we have?

I make the wife sleep on the sofa so the photo stuff can be comfortable.

Actually, most stays in the carry bag, some smaller items in a dresser drawer, larger less-used things in closet, cameras on top of dresser. Film in fridge.

I've known pros that have a cabinet for everything.

I use plastic containers and label them. They can stack, and are in 1 place. Such as a box labeled "Misc. cables". Tripods are in their case generally stacked in a corner. Most of these are on a shelving unit in my MAN CAVE.

That worked for me also until those pesky Zeiss lenses threw me out of my own bed too! I thought they just wanted to cuddle.

We've since sepperated and they wound up with the studio, and left me with the apartment. Now they all have a closet with individual containers.

Pepper,
You can store equipment anywhere as long as it is dry and relatively warm, not hot. Now one thing most forget if long time storage is pull all batteries. Large plastic bags and containers work well.

I'm fond of dessicant packets in my camera case, they arrest moisture. Every few months I put them in the oven on a VERY low temperature to dry them out.

Exactly! Every time I buy something that comes with a dessicant package, I save it. You can buy them, but free is better.

For long term storage I use a Pelican case to keep most of my photo equipment in. I also put several silica gel packs inside to absorb the moisture. Pelican makes great cases. You can also look at Porter cases they are similar to Pelican cases.
To transport my equipment to a shoot I use a Think Tank Airport Security bag. Think Tank bags and equipment is great and durable stuff and they stand behind what they sell and provide excellent customer service.
Porter case http://www.portercase.com/catalog/
Pelican case http://pelican.com/
Think Tank http://www.thinktankphoto.com/
Most all of these companies products are available not only on their specific websites, but Amazon, B&H etc. Most of the Internet companies offer both Pelican and Porter. You can check around the camera stores in your area, or check the stores that offer the cases.
A lot of "professional photographers" use Think Tank products because of their customer service and warranty on the items they sell. So many of the pros write about a handle coming loose, a wheel coming off etc, and most constantly brag about Think Tank products.

Sealed cases are good, but NOT if they have leather cases or (worse still) foam rubber in them. The counsel of perfection is a humidity controlled cabinet (mucho dinero).

Cheers,
