Is there a way to turn off the 'shutter sound' on a Canon T3I? I turned off the beep but if there's a way to turn off the shutter sound I cant seem to find it.

You mean the shutter clicking or the mirror going up and down ?

Nope, what you're hearing is the mechanical shutter and/or the mirror slap.

Check your on-camera menus; there should be a "silent mode" feature, at least there is on my 60D. Also, shoot with live view, as this is the same thing as "mirror lock up", which helps silence some internal workings. Don't know exactly what "silent mode" does, haven't tryed it yet, but check it out. Let me know what you find out.

Other caveats to these modes is it may change the way your camera focuses on objects - that mirror on SLR systems typically directs light to the exposure & focus systems that make SLR cameras so good & fast. using Live view may revert focus & exposure to a point & shoot grade technology...

Yup, thats what I was afraid of. Its good for gettin a pet to look at the camera.. bad for shooting wildlife. ;(

Thanks, I checked again. But 'beep - disable' is all my model offers I guess... No 'silent mode' that I can find.

Stay far enough away with a good telephoto and your problem will be solved. I personally like the sound after the shutter is released !

You will need a "Sound Blimp Housing".

Sorry, there are only two stupid questions in the English language and this is not one of them. It is a good, legitimate question. It does matter how simple or profound the question is, you are simply asking for help. Nothing wrong with that. Unfortunately, some people have to bolster their own egos at the expense of others and the person who answers is the stupid one.

Keep asking your questions and do not call them stupid.

You know, along those lines, I like to think I'm pretty proficient at photography, but every once in a while someone who is COMPLETELY new to it will ask a question or make a statement that gets me to thinking about something I don't understand and perhaps the answer will pop into my head !! I listen to everybody and everything, and I filter out what I don't need !
