My name is Bob Thomason. I got interested in photography about ten years ago and really got bit hard by the shutter bug about 6 years ago. I primarily go for outdoors and wildlife although I have done some portrait photography. If anyone would like to look at some of my work I would greatly appreciate any critique or compliments. Hi Bob, I just signed up for Hedgehog and for fun I checked out your images. I looked only at the birds, since that is a major interest of mine, along with landscape photography.
I have a few suggestions:
Always try to fill the field with your subject, many of your birds are too small and difficult to view.
Try to compose an image that the head and, especially the eye is clear and sharp with some catch light. Some are flying away from you and the eye is barely visible.
Try to establish your background before setting up and remove all clutter and distractions from around your subject. Many images have a lot of distracting branches, etc.
I hope that this helps. These are many of the critiques that I was given when I first began my hobby.
If you would like, I can send a few images that I learned to improve upon by gentle help from my mentors.

EDCO Thanks for the critique. I am working with only a 55x250mm IS lens on all those bird shots with a Canon EOS Rebel XS. I just today ordered a 500mm fixed lens for the camera. I have always wanted the detail your talking about but just have not had the lens to do it.

That should be great. A 500 mm will get you close enough for good "fill the frame" head shots. You might consider a 1.4 or 1.7 teleconverter also.
