The Houston Chronicle editorial board expressed remorse over its endorsement of Sen. Ted Cruz in the Senate race last year, saying he has failed to live up to their expectations.

“When we endorsed Ted Cruz in last November’s general election, we did so with many reservations and at least one specific recommendation - that he follow Hutchison’s example in his conduct as a senator. Obviously, he has not done so. Cruz has been part of the problem in specific situations where Hutchison would have been part of the solution,” the Texas paper board wrote in an editorial titled, “Why we miss Kay Bailey Hutchison”.

The Chronicle lamented the retirement of Cruz’s predecessor in the Senate, saying she may have made a difference in the government shutdown were she still in the Senate.

“We’re not sure how much difference one person could make in the toxic, chaotic, hyperpartisan atmosphere in Washington, but if we could choose just one it would be Hutchison, whose years of service in the Senate were marked by two things sorely lacking in her successor, Ted Cruz,” the Chronicle wrote, citing her putting the best interests of Texas above all else and her willingness to work across the aisle. “We feel certain she would have worked shoulder to shoulder with Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, in crafting a workable solution that likely would have avoided the government shutdown altogether. But we’ll never know.”

Cruz has done the job that the media won't. He calls a spade a spade.

The title certainly appears to be racist.

That's the man's name.

It is his name, you are correct. It is not the name he chooses to use. You seem to be using it to point out his Latin heritage, which in turn appears to be racist.

What's wrong with a Latin heritage ? I have people with Latin heritage in my family and grew up with many Cuban friends in south Florida.

Please tell me the difference in using Cruz's name and using Barry or Hussein.

Really you are going to use the name that leftist zealots use to identify him? How does Hussein Obama grab you? Does my using the president's middle name make you feel that I might be someone that you would care to have a conversation with?

I am really surprised that using his given name has caused such consternation. Particularly considering the times that I have seen Barry and Hussein used for Obama.
This is not to mention all of the crude and nasty names that I have seen used on this board. (Obummer, Omammie, etc.

Yes, but do you see those terms thrown about by people whom you think might offer you an intellectual POV wroth taking the time to read and consider?

Blurry, I'm not trying to be argumentative, but practically every thread has a derisive name for the president. You would be surprised at how agreeable I could be on some of these discussions if I didn't get so disgusted with the name calling of Obama. Why do they feel they must resort to such names ?
It would be great if we could all have intelligent discussions without the name calling of each other and the politicians we disagree with. I am called many vile names by the same people because I have an opposing argument.
I see that you participate in many of these threads. Can I count on you to call out the name callers that just happen to be on the side you agree with ?

LOL... I can't fix stupid, you, I feel that there might be some hope for. I have said some derogatory things about this president but always qualified by why I think his actions gave me license, like the shut downs of the memorial or the WH but you will never see me play with his name. More out of my own self respect and because I know that it gives reason for those on the other side of the issue to discount anything further that I have to say about the particular issue that I have with the president or his policies that I am trying to discuss. That is why you will engage with me and try and have a little bit deeper conversation other than simply slinging mud.

I don't use Barry or Hussein etc. to refer to the president because those are not names he uses to identify himself, just as Rafael is not a name that Cruz uses to identify himself.

Sometimes a poster (or anyone, for that matter) will use an odd twist on someone's name because it is a bad pun or that it illustrates something, and that usage may or may not be perceived as worthy by the hearer. When it gets repeated, it sounds more and more like the writer/speaker is desperate to make a point that isn't there.

As an example, I probably agree with radio host and author Mark Levin on every topic related to our society and government, but can't stand to listen to the guy for that very reason. The first time he called the New York Times the "New York Slimes" and the first time he called Biden "Plugs", they were probably funny. The second time it started to become irritating, and the umpteenth time it just sounds like Levin is an idiot who resorts to name-calling rather than rational discourse.

As another example which I proposed to you in another thread recently, there was a poster on UHH during the presidential race last year who always wanted to call Romney "Willard". Yes, that was his first name. But the poster meant it to be silly and demeaning. By the umpteenth time, I wrote that poster off as being an idiot and didn't even open his posts after that.

I am assuming that you refer to Cruz as "Rafael" because you think that is making a point. It is, but it probably isn't the point you want to be making.

That is correct. You are always willing and capable of carrying on an adult conversation. Some of the people on here are unable to do that and simply want to call names. As soon as I see that I immediately want to defend Obama even if I may have agreed with the OP.
I can't respect them or their position. And, I have to confess that I am goaded into doing the same thing. However, I don't believe that I have ever been the first one to call an OP a name.
If it irks anyone to hear me call ted Cruz "Rafael", can you appreciate how some of us feel when the president is called "obummer , obammie and other outrageous names. That is far worse than calling someone by his given name.
I will do my best to refrain from this and I call on you to admonish those on the right who continue to use juvenile names for the president.
