Well, I'm stoked. Just placed my order for the new Olympus Om-d M1 and the 12-40mm zoom. I've bin an Olympus user for many years.
Taught myself photography on my dad's Leica 3g (loved the size) then worked my way thru college as a press photographer using the Nikon Ftn, what a beast. Bought one of the first Olympus OM-1's and worked my way up to a few OM-4's.
Have been playing around with a good Samsung point 'n shoot and Photoshop Elements the past few years with good results. Now making the jump to big boy (and girl) toys and again, size matters.I can't wait till the stuff to show up.

Mr. Kraatz, welcome to UHH and to the wonderful world of μ4/3 photography. I strongly recommend this forum. While we do have disagreements and many differences of opinion here, it is all generally for the common good. Our willingness to argue for what we think is right and proper is our strength. You won't find a lot of "YES" people around here. So please bear with us. The only stupid question is the one that isn't asked. Have fun and let us see the fruits of your efforts. Bill (Mogul)
Used to have the first OM4 from the NEC launch in the uk. sold it a couple of years ago and went digital. If I honest I should have kept both hope you kept one.

I never throw anything out. Still have an OM4, two OM1's, an OM10, an OMF & my dad's Leica 3g.

Just curious. Do you still have the AF 35-70 for the OMF? If so, how was the image quality? Could you override the AF to tweak the Af? Thanks.
Lucky dog...I'm still limping along with my e5. Maybe next year I'll fit in an upgrade.
Welcome aboard. If your interests include sailing how about a few shots on that subject? If it's wet I love it.....
Welcome to the forum....I have exclusively shot the OMD EM5 for about a year now....I take an abundance of nature images and have found the Oly 75-300mm lens a real winner...provides an effective reach of 600mm and with the in-camera teleconverter, 1200mm...use the Oly 45mm for most indoor work and have the 12-50mm when I need a wider angle.
I read that the new 12-40mm lens is a real winner....hope to hear your thoughts as I plan to order the EM-1 soon...either with or without the new 12-40mm lens.
You will not be disappointed with your acquisition....the EM5 is a marvelous camera and the EM-1 appears to be a nice step up...

I'm jealous, want one! I'm a long time oly shooter, currently using OMD EM 5. Expect a learning curve, going from a standard olympus DSLR to the EM5 drove me nuts for months. But they are great little cameras. Ask questions as you need to. The m43 forum on Dpreview has lots of technical info too. You may want to check it out as well. Have fun. ( if you kept your old OM lenses they should work with an adapter)

Never bought the AF 35-70. Kinda set it up bass ackwards. I would pick a spot I wanted the camera to fire then wait for the subject to hit that spot & "click."

If you're really limping along with your E-5, I would suggest that you do not yet know that camera well enough and you won't get along any better with the OM-D E-M1.

It was meant to be tongue and cheek...but I do find myself using the E5 less and less, opting for the EPM-2...much easier to carry, and the sensor handles lowlight situations much better...of course some of that may be the 20mm and the 45mm lenses that are f/1.7 and f/1.8...but if I'm headed outside, and the weather is so-so looking the E5 comes along.

When forced to give up the bulk and weight of my Nikon kit, I opted first for the EP3 with 12mm f2 lens and the added OMDEM5 w/ the 12-50 kit lens, now have added 70 300 and looking to perhaps go to EM1- You will NOT be disappointed!....Look at the Voigtlander 45mm w/ f.95 That sounds like a winner combo

Put simply, the E-M1 is not just one of the best system cameras around at the moment, but one of the best cameras full stop.
