I have driven down that hill in a car with iffy brakes. Pretty scary!

I could never take it, makes me dizzy just looking at your photo.

So that they can live in magical San Francisco! When you live there, you get used to the hills and it seems normal.

Don't fall down or you'll roll all the way to the ocean!! I tried braking with my engine, but I still had to use brakes, even using first gear. I think I'd open a brake shop if I lived here. Talk about job security.

I have seen people skateboard down those hills. Young people who think they are immortal, of course.

Thanks for the memories! Spent a lot of years there in the early 1970's, even drove a few streets with stick-shift...and sure wish I hadn't :)

Early 70's? The Haight-Ashbury area is still there. Drove through yesterday. The bus tour doesn't go through there. Hah....also drove past Pizza Orgazmica....almost stopped there so we could take the box home.

I probably passed you at a few intersections. I always had a stick-shift too, still do. It was taking life in our hands to drive those streets, but a lot of fun, don't you think? I used to tutor underprivileged kids there in the early 1960s and sometimes I would pile them in the car and take them on a roller-coaster ride. Whee! No seatbelts in those days. They LOVED it.

I was just going to comment that you don't want to tackle these hills with a stick shift. It's hard enough with an automatic. Heading uphill, there's a blind moment where you can't see over the hood of the car (if you're short like me :-) ).
