In Tucson looking at flowers, and came upon large number of butterflies - they seemed focussed on just these flowers.

They are nice pictures; however, I feel, there is too much going on. I would suggest cropping to emphasize only one or maybe two butterflies. I think that would be more impressive. It would help if the remaining butterfly was highlighted in some way to show up better.

It's amazing that the butterflies are brown and naturally the flowers so colorful. Here's a couple of mine.

These are Queen butterflies (Danaus gilippus). Time for a macro lens!

May I post a photo or two of Queen butterflies on your thread?

As a newbie, I'm looking for critique. Thanks for the kind words and critique. The thing that got my attention was the large number of them "queen butterflies"(thanks) on only some flowers. Reminded me of riding back on logging trails in upper WI where there are no homes, and there will be millions of butterflies on the dirt/grass trails, clustered here and there. Would have liked to had more focus on one, showing the many others in the background. Have to go back! Thanks!

sorry - it was meant as a question. People keep talking about it on here so I got confused myself - anyway, I like the butterflies and I hope others will post some also.

You can still emphasize one butterfly by cropping. Try it, as I did. I think it makes a difference. The reason the butterfly's don't stand out is that the colors of the flowers are as bright or brighter than the butterfly. A Macro lens would help since you said that you needed to go lens shopping. I do use a macro lens and it helps. Mine is a 60mm Canon which was the recommendation at the time I bought. The latest information seems to recommend a 100mm. Either one would help greatly if you want to shoot flowers or butterflies.
