Flat & Dull Images

It seems that when I post an image in the photo contest the downloaded photo looks dull compared to the original.

Does anyone know a way around this?

Am I doing something incorrectly?

What is your definition of dull?

Whatever might happen to your images when uploaded to the contest page should happen to all the other images submitted also, so the playing field is level.

You could try making changes to your image and then uploading the different files until you find one that matches your original. You can delete images and add new ones in the contest area.

Yes I considered that but was hoping someone had a short cut.

After several attempts I gave up. I couldn't match the original.

This is not about a level playing field. I processed the image to look a certain way. Is wrong to expect that it remains the same?

Perhaps you could get a better answer by contacting the moderator of the contest section:

The first photo I uploaded to this forum looked awful. Very different from how it looked on my computer. When I doublechecked my export settings, I had mistakenly exported it in the ProPhotoRGB color space I'd been working on the photo in, rather than the sRGB space needed for web display. Once I corrected the color space and re-exported, the photo looked just fine. Worth a look to be sure you are exporting in the right color space.

Great advice.

You did it. It worked just as you described. I thank you very much.

At least now when I get zero votes I've got no excuses.

Thanks again.

Very welcome. We can learn from each others' mistakes as well as our own...

Maybe that is my problem also. I vote for myself just so I do not get a zero. Our group has many pros, and they like my images. Yes, pro can mean almost anything, but one shoots for Nat Geo. So I stopped entering the contest here on the hog. Still open and explore the daily offerings. Attached my last, for "The World Wide Photo Walk", one vote-mine.

If you are into it you might have fun placing your entry in the Analysis section asking what could have been done to give you more votes.
