An interview with richz

Hi UHH Members:

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
I have been doing photography since 1974.

2) Have you had any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
I have a Bachelor of Science in photography from Empire State College.

3) What inspired you to take your winning shot?
I love street photography and go to Woodstock NY on Sundays where they have a drum circle and take photos of participants and observers. That is where I found Grandpa & Grandma Woodstock. Grandma wears her beard proudly and loves to pose for my photos.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup?
I have Sony equipment a A55 and a A65, with a slew of lenses.

5) Would you change anything if you could do it again?
If I were to take this photo again, I would have liked to have a little better Bokeh of the background.

6) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
If I wasn't a photographer I would probably have to settle for a job that would be editing and displaying other peoples' photography.

7) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
I have a website http://www.richzphotos.com that features some of my work.
I will be adding new images in the near future of some more of the 1000's of photos I have shot.

An interview with charryl

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
I remember trying to take "artistic" pictures as a kid. I just liked the feel of the camera in my hand and seeing images through a viewfinder. Got my first Nikon in my twenties and did darkroom work during that period as well. Then life and career took over. I was still taking pictures but intermittently. Now photography is one of my main activities.

2) Have you had any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
Yes. I am currently working toward an AA degree. Portraiture and landscape are the two, areas I enjoy the most.

3) What inspired you to take your winning shot?
I asked a friend if he would go on a portrait photo shoot with me. I took along some props. One was a Mongolian hat. We had great fun that day. The winning photo was one of that series.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup?
I used a Nikon D600 and (without checking the metadata) I think I used a 18-300mm lens. No special setup although I wish I had used a reflecting screen to light up his face more.

5) Would you change anything if you could do it again?
Yes, a reflecting surface to get fill light.

6) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
Painting and enameling.

7) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
Past posts for right now. I am working on a website that should be up within a few weeks.

An interview with Nightski

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
Almost 10 months now. I run out in in the woods on paths that wind between 2 lakes everyday. I enjoy all the things I see when I am out there so much. I started out wanting to photograph it, so that I could share it with my family and friends.

2) Have you had any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
No formal Training
Landscape Photography is what I enjoy the most.

3) What inspired you to take your winning shot?
The contest theme. My brother in law has a great face for a dramatic portrait photo. He's a cowboy at heart, and he really looks like that all the time.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup?
Canon 6D, Canon 75-300mm 4-5.6, I took the shots of him in front of the barn that he built with his family and neighbors at sunset.

5) Would you change anything if you could do it again?
Yes. I would remember to take the tiffen protective glass filter off of my lens. The photo is not as sharp as it should be. It's a cheap filter and it may even have been a little dirty.
I would have relaxed and taken more shots. My brother in law was willing and very helpful, but I was so nervous, I didn't think of all the possibilities I had there until I got home.

6) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
I enjoy dog training and gardening too.

7) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
No, I'm not there yet. Maybe someday I'll have a gallery on line for my friends and family to view.
