Hello, I'm new to the forum and wanted to introduce myself.
I'm a guitar player and instructor by trade and now trying to learn to shoot better videos for online instruction and demo's of music products.

I joined also to learn and get advice, i'm trying to decide to buy a d7000, or a 300s to shoot video for products and guitar demo's in a 10x10 controlled room. I'm trying to be budget continuous and would really like to have the d600 or the d7100 but thought i could start with a used camera to learn at the same time. I sold my sony a65 recently because of the file format issue. Now i'm looking to buy a Nikon. Thanks for any help.

Thanks Ray, I do have a sx40 that I tried and it will work but i believe I can do much better in comparison. Thanks for any advice.

Do not get a Canon Rebel T2i I'm not sure about the later models. I can depend on my T3 but still. it's only 720, and it blends better with pre existing footage that's not high def.

The T2i has an automatic self stop the video feature.
When you need it, it automatically stops :shock:

I have heard the term Dedicated Video Camera a lot.
If our not shooting pictures and you got some change. you might consider one.

Got any samples you want us to look at?

I shoot a Canon 60D with a Sigma 18-250mm as my walk around lens. I also have an 24-70mm f2.8, and a 10-20mm wide angle and a 50mm (nifty fifty).I am a hobby shooter.Ray.

I forgot to mention that the 60D also shoots video, which I always forget to use.

I do videos of gigs for small bands and will never use a DSLR only my Panasonic 3mos camcorder. Remember DSLRs are also limited to about 30 minutes recording as the chip overheats

If you need to take videos, then purchase a video camera, they are cheap enough these days and are designed for that specific purpose.

The D7000 is much better at shooting video than the D300s. In your confined area you will need a fairly wide lens unless you will be cropped tight on the guitar, then space won't be an issue, just good lighting. Good luck.

Any comparisons with the d5200? I hear it is newer and has some great video. Body is not like the d7000 I bet but ?

D5200 has the same Toshiba sensor as the D7100, but with the anti-aliasing filter on it. The D7100 shoots wonderful video, but I have not shot the D5200. The movable LCD screen would be a handy tool if shooting yourself as you could face it towards you and avoid an external monitor for this.

Thanks its hard to tell which would be better for me. In the size room Im shoot in, I have found that it works to use a 35mm fixed on a crop sensor and a 50mm on a full frame. So yes, you mentioned that i thinkthanks

This is a video I shot handheld under extreme lighting conditions, I used a Nikon 5200 with the kit lens, I think it did a great job, I have had video cameras and they have been no better.
If your work is going to be done on a tripod then you would get excellent results.

Can you provide a URL so we can view the results of the Panasonic 3mos camcorder?
I also produce music videos using DSLR and Magnavox camcorder combination for multiple angles and shooting stills during the performance.
