I have a Black Rapid sling which I like but do not like having it attached to the tripod hole on my full frame camera. I saw couple people who had an adaptor that allowed attachment of Black Rapid sling via a normal camera strap attachment point instead of the tripod position. They bought it at their local small camera store. Does anyone know where it can be found online?

I use my L-Bracket to attach my BR, so I suggest you buy a bracket or an L-Bracket.

I do use an L bracket and was considering that option. However, it doesn't solve the inconvenience problem of having to repeatedly attach and detach the strap when using a tripod. I use a tripod for considerable amount of time and find it inconvenient having to attach and detach the strap.

Having used them for years, ive never had one fail. D3 and 600mm F4, no problem. D2xs and 400mm F4, no problem. D700, 80-400mm VR, no problem. A D3 + 600mm F4 just shy of 14 pounds.

You should give that tripod mount more credit than you do. Ir you are really worried, get some gear insurance. Body Lugs can fail if you feel the tripod mount will fail.

I use one on my Canon body with a 500mm f4 lens. This combo weighs 13lb 6oz and I've never had a problem. The strap hardware attaches to the lens foot and not the bodies tripod socket. But I do attach it to the camera body when carrying it with a smaller lens that doesn't have a foot.

I also use a Swiss Arca plate on all my lens feet and bodies for faster connect and disconnect.

^^^This is an excellent point. The mount was made to support the weight of the camera with lens attached... whether you are talking about the lens mount OR the tripod mount. I'm not sure if the orientation of that support is important or not so it SHOULDN'T matter if the camera is right side up or upside down.

It CAN be a pain in the neck however, screwing and unscrewing the strap from the camera/lens lugs to switch back and forth with tri/mono pods.

I still love my BR strap though. ;)

Maybe you should look at the ProPlates from Peak Design.

I was looking at the Peak Design website and wasn't clear if and how do their products work with camera that's always mounted onto an L-plate. Do you have any experience in this area?

No. Those REPLACE any QR plates (Arca Swiss, Manfrotto) you currently have on your camera. Including 'L' plates.

What I'm going to do, is replace the 'L' plate on my body with a Capture Pro, and use a Custom Brackets rotating unit to let my cameras do both portrait and landscape without removing and re-mounting on the QR socket. And then I can use the Capture Pro with the ProPad just like a Spider. Or attach my BR clone to the ring on the plate. Multiple attachment options with one QR plate.

Actually Peak Design leash strap
(http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/929796-REG/peak_design_leash_quick_connecting_camera_strap.html#pr-header-back-to-top-link)
sounds like a solution to what I was looking for: sling strap that will allow me to keep the L plate on the camera, use tripod without disconnecting the sling, and not having to use the tripod mount for sling attachment. Thanks.

That's a great idea Cavor, I've never had a problem but it would give you more confidence and security...

I think the tether kit is a great idea. I may be the first person to use to tether from my regular strap lugs down to the tripod lug for safety; I'll have to see if it gets in the way of the converted strap lug connectors before I can use it. But, if I do use it, I'll probably use both straps provided, one to each strap lug.

Its really too bad we don't have a "local camera store".

I know what you mean. My local camera store, Norman, is 60 miles away. Luckily my laptop is inches away.
