Nikon RAW files won't load/open

I need a little advice. I was using a Nikon d70s since it came out but finally upgraded to a d7000. Great camera but I can't get the NEF files to open. I tried both Nikons Picture Publisher I got with my d70s and Photoshop Elements 7. Is it because both of those programs are older and don't support the newer files from the d7000 or is it something else? Anyone ever had that problem before?? Thanks for and advice.... Joe T.

Yes to your 2nd last question. Both programs too old. You can download Nikon Transfer and Nikon View NX2 from the Nikon site for free and both programs should cover opening nef files for your D7000

Your Elements 7 will work if you first convert the NEF files to DNG format. You can download the DNG converter from Adobe for free.

I have a D7000 and the raw files open in Windows Live Gallery. Takes a couple of minutes but they open.

did you check out the software that came with your camera
on the nikon cd, i have the same d7000 but use lightroom 5
