I will be getting a sideline pass for a couple of championship football games and need some help. I have a 70-200mmf2.8 lens but I'm wondering what other lens should have to take some great picture. A 300mm or 400mm or a Sigma 120-300? Any help?
I suggest taking the 400 mm lens, particularly if it's a fast lens. I rented a 200-400 f2.8 lens when I had a similar opportunity earlier this year. and the shots were fantastic. I now own the Sigma 120-300 f2.8 and it's my favorite lens for shooting football from the sidelines. Occasionally I use the Dx mode on my Nikon D4 for even more reach .

I have shot at Ford field and lighting is good. Definitely take your 70-200 f2.8. I also used a 18-270 Tamron. Very happy with the results. A fixed 300 or more will result in many shots that do not have enough of the players body. I wouldn't take it unless you take 2 bodies and one has the shorter lens.

Excellent point Toby. Having 2 bodies is highly recommended!
thanks, I am thinking about renting a 1.4 extender or a 120-300

The 1.4 extender will reduce the light and maybe even prevent autofocus from working. If you must, rent the 120-300
I shoot football frequently and will second the vote for the Nikon 200-400m f4 lens. It does a really great job!
You might try the Nikon 300mm f4 prime lens, and if it is good daylight bring the tc1.4 for extra reach. If you can, shoot from the endzone and get them coming right at your lens.
