It's the lens I use the most on my 7D. Very versatile.

This is a great lens; I've used it on both 5DII and 5DIII. Produces images with good contrast and color saturation even on the 5DIII full frame sensor. FYI, I shoot exclusively in RAW. If you can get the Canon 24-105 at a kit price with the camera purchase, you will be getting good value and you're not likely to be disappointed. Canon's Digital Professional Photo software which comes with the 5DIII will have lens corrections for this lens as will Lightroom if you use that. This is just my two cents worth. You might "Google" the lens for reviews and you will find others opinion of it. Also, I thik you will like the 5DIII.

2673, probably Canon's most popular upgrade lens. Arguably the ideal FF walk-around. But it's too slow for indoors without cranking the ISO to unexcepticle levels(yes, even on a mklll), so plan maybe a fast 50 or 35 as a low-light bailout lens, to go along with it.
Happy shooting. SS

I have had one for over 4 years now, and it's my main go to walking around lens, and feel it is an excellent lens and a great value.

Hi, I've just had this lens for the last month, bought it in kit form with my 6D. The IS is really good, I can't believe the indoor shots i have got without a tripod. In the kit I was only paying $400 for the lens, great price, don't know how you can say no unless you already own it. Easily could be sold for twice that if you don't want it and cut down your cost on the 5D.

I bought this lens as the "kit" with a Canon 5D MK III and have been very pleased. With Canon's DIGIC-5 processing, you could probably take virtually any lens and make for a great photo, but it's the zoom range that sold me. Most of what I take, portraits, journalistic, etc., fit into this range. It has great wide angle results , too. And with the 5D's phenomenal ISO capabilities, an f4 is fine.

As you've seen from the responses, this is a generally well-regarded lens. It is not the sharpest glass in Canon's catalog, and it has some CA and vignetting issues (which can be easily corrected) but overall, in a bang-for-the-buck comparison, it's a great value. NEW, it can be had for under a grand. It's even quite usable on an APS-C body.

Check the Flickr group for this lens for some ideas of what it can do in the right hands, or the Photography-on-the-Net Canon forum for the 24-105, and especially look for shots by the user SYDOR25. (S)he is a superb shooter.

I've had this lens for 3 or 4 years (can't remember exactly!) My favourite lens, on the camera all the time unless I'm doing wildlife or macro. I love it and highly recommend it.

This is my number one walk around lens . Have it on one camera while switching lenses as I need on another . This stays put on my 5DMIII.

It's my most used lens on my 5D iii. I mostly shoot landscape and historical buildings with it. I like the lens and agree with most of the posted comments here.

The 24-105 is a great lens for portrait and walkaround and occassional landscape. The zoom range is great although the 24 - 36 range is bunched together. It also distorts badly at the shorter length. Can reccommend it unless you are aiming for predominately lanscape shots. The 24-70L is way sharper as is the 16-24L. Cant go wrong with the price.

I received this lense when I bought a Canon 6D last year. It has become my "walk around" lense. I have used it for everything from landscape to portraiture. I can't say enough positive things about this lense.

I've used one for many years, both on cropped frame and full frame bodies. It is a great general purpose lens. F/4 is a little slow but That has never been a problem even indoors.

On the negative side, it can at first seem heavy but you get used to it. I have noticed that models released in the past couple of years tend to have lens creep. My 2007 model has next to no lens creep while my 2012 model has considerable lens creep. The lens creep is nowhere near as bad as it is on the Canon 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 lens.

It is well worth the money when bought as the kit lens.

Yes, I own this lens, and mount it on the full-frame Canon 6D, with outstanding results. I do most of my landscape and some of my studio portrait work with this combination.

See a couple examples below.
