An interview with LPigott

Thank you,
As you may know I've entered almost every week unless I was out of town and unable to upload a photo during the "window." I have found your topics stimulating and the contest itself a catalyst to stretching my limitations. It was a matter of personal pride to figure out each entry. I never thought I'd be a winner.

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
I thought I was a photographer for many years ... until I purchased a Canon 7D in March and found myself scrambling to learn the principles of DSLR photography. I went from self aggrandized master to a pitiful beginner learning about aperture, shutter speed, ISO and post processing. It's been taxing to my brain and purse ... and totally joyful.

2) Have you had any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
Formal training has consisted of workshops with local professionals and a college class in PhotoShop. I focus almost exclusively on landscapes along the Pacific Coast.

3) What inspired you to take your winning shot?
I had seen photos of the waterfall ... all focusing on the falls in isolation. When I made to trek to the site I saw the bigger picture as a natural panorama others had missed or chosen not to print.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup?
Canon 7D with 18-135MM and tripod. Nothing special.

5) Would you change anything if you could do it again?
I'd probably fiddle around with a variety of different settings. Or maybe I'd try a different time of year to capture a flowering plant in the foreground.

6) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
Golf is my other pastime.

7) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
Not yet. I create photobooks for friends but do not maintain a website.

An interview with onemoment

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
5yrs. it was the convenience of digital technology that got me started.

2) Have you had any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
i took photography classes in college 35yrs ago. i shoot mostly landscapes, stills, and some street photography.

3) What inspired you to take your winning shot?
always in the hunt for lighting, subject, and emotion.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup?
canon 5d mk2 28mm 1.8

5) Would you change anything if you could do it again?
capturing a moment is by chance, always have a camera close by.

6) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do? probably an art craft of some sort or calligraphy.

7) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
not at the moment.

An interview with RiverNan

What a pleasant surprise! Thanks for the votes

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
For as long as I can remember. I got my first Kodak Instamatic by collecting Bazooka Joe comics.

2) Have you had any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
I have participated in day workshops now and then.

3) What inspired you to take your winning shot?
YOU DID!...I was reminded of the World Wide Photo Walk by checking the Contest site on UHH...Registered the morning of the 5th and was at Princeton U by noon.
When I saw children coming through the arches with Blue Balloons I stood and watched until this boy came through alone.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup?
I used my Olympus OM-D, 12-35...nice and light.
Had to do a little PP due to mid day light.

5) Would you change anything if you could do it again?
Maybe if the boy were a model and I could have him walk through again and again I might have tried standing center of the Arches rather than off to the side.

6) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
I don't know!...

7) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?

THANKS AGAIN!

An interview with Captain Tom

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
Have been into photography probably 40+ years. Through the film and darkroom era which I still have great memories of, but digital sure is cost effective!

2) Have you had any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
Some formal training in college and other seminars and courses. I have a great wife and we shoot anything and everything! My advice for everyone is join a Camera Club and the PSA and compete, compete, compete. You get shot down a lot but you sure learn. The Ugly Hedgehog is a great opportunity to see other work and creativity.

3) What inspired you to take your winning shot?
Hate to admit it but it was a lucky shot. Had seen the Anhinga’s feeding and spearing their prey underwater then tossing in the air and swallowing whole many times but this was still a very lucky shot.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup?
For this image I used a Nikon D800 with a Nikkor 80-400 hand held.

5) Would you change anything if you could do it again?
Would have liked to have a polarizer on so I could have possibly had more detail in the water but on the other hand needed the speed. Didn’t want to lose 2 to 4 stops with the polarizer. Probably should have sat down and shot hundreds of images. Still luck!

6) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
Photography and boating are my prime interests. Love the photography but love being on the water too!

7) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
Nowhere to see my work. I am a retired computer engineer and don’t want to turn my love of photography into a business or anything commercial.
