I am setting up a website with domain and hosting on
Weebly (due mainly to UHH reviewers.) There
is a box at the bottom of the payment details that
says "Enable private Registration for my domain ($10/yr)"
Can't find out what it means, but I guess it has something to do with not being searchable? Hope someone can clue
me in and what the advantages/disadvantages would be.
Thanks,
Scalawag
There is a service called WhoIs that allows you to look up the owner of a domain. When you buy private registration your information is replaced with that of a 3rd party company. This shields you from some junk mail but in the 7 or 8 years I've had a domain I've never found not having private registration to be a problem.

Right on! You beat me to it.
Many thanks to both. It is only $10 per year but I am
not paranoid (yet) and for some reason don't get much
junk mail anyway.
I'll go for it today.
Thanks for quick replies, Regards, Scalawag
Weebly is a pretty good host.
The worst I've ever dealt with is Webs.com, accursed be their name.
