I want to thank everyone who responded to my "newbie" request and for input on my new Canon EOS Rebel T3i. I'm thinking I made a good decision to "impulse" buy the Canon and definitely joining this group was very smart.

Hang the reviews unless you can take it back. Learn to use it. Learn every function. Learn to use the camera with out looking at. Learn to shoot fast. And then learn to slow down when you have the luxury to exploit the photo-op.

I just helped a friend put a kit together. T2i body, -200; 17-85 lens -100; Canon backpack $5.00. Borrowed tripod looking at used for that just found a 10-22 mm Canon -300. They will dedicate $100 for incidentals and have a very cost effective kit that that can be traded up when ready and not loose money.

Go on line and Google how to use T3 and how to use Canon Rebel.

Kind reminds me about the guy I went clubbing with he disappeared for several days. He reappeared explaining that he woke-up to find him self married. He said, "she is probably a great girl, RIGHT." My advice to is the same as I gave him. Take good care of the body and you will want to periodically change glass. He has bought several diamonds and eyeglasses over the years. Good decision or bad discussion we have made A decision. Live with it and it doesn't have to be for ever. J. R.

I'm brand new to Dslr cameras and saw a great deal on the Canon EOS Rebel T3 but I have no idea whether it is a fair, good, or great camera. I know the Canon is a good name brand but back in my old 35mm days I used either a Nikon or Minolta. Anyone have any input that would be useful I would appreciate it. PS: I already purchased the camera so hopefully you won't tear it down too much. ;)

Good camera. Only real distinction to explain it's lower price is that the T3 is less megapixels (12) compared to the T3i whch has more megapixels (18).

You often find the T3 in Big Box Store camera sections like costco, fred meyer, Staples, etc. because of it's lower price.

Don't be alarmed. Image quality is similar. For the most part more megapixels only allow you to print pictures bigger. However, your 12 Mp will print exceptional pictures up to 20X30 depending on the quality of the printer and your ability (learned) to prepare the picture for printing.

All the Canon Rebels come in two variations for a lower price and a higher price based on megapixels resolution.

I've used both variants in a number of rebels and image quality has generally been equivalent, with maximum print capability being the significant difference.

The T3 and T3i are Canons entry level DSLR camera bodies. I started with the T2i a few years ago. At that time they were still making a T1i and the Xti was still on the market. They all take great images but if you find that you really like photography you will probably outgrow it. If you use it occasionally and don't get involved with other photographers then it will probably suit you for years to come.

Tombar, don't feel alone. I use to shoot with a Minolta years ago. About 6-months ago I purchased a Cannon T3 with the 18-50MM kit lenses. Since then I've aquired a 50mm cannon prime lens and a 100-300mm cannon zoom along with several close up filters and other filters. From what I understand the T3 is a very good entry market DSLR. I agree after using mine for the past 6-months. There is a lot to learn about that camera and I'm still learning something new most everyday. The folks on UHH forum are for the most part just wonderful. They have helped me out in many aspects. No question is to "dumb" to ask. Check out UHH search engine. Type in a question and a lot of responses will appear. Enjoy your new camera and take lots of pictures.

Looks like you buy cameras on impulse, if you want to learn about the Canon T3i, go to a book store and buy a book on the T3i. The book will give you more info about that camera than you will get out of your owners manual.

He purchased a T3, not a T3i.

You need a good book on the operation of this camera. I always suggest the books by David Busch. Your camera is also known at the 1100D in Europe. Here is a link to the Busch book for your model on Amazon.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/143546026X/?tag=googhydr-20&hvadid=26181400757&hvpos=1o1&hvexid=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=1727085142686244676&hvpone=20.48&hvptwo=32&hvqmt=b&hvdev=c&ref=pd_sl_98n6s0qbn9_b

This book will teach you everything you need to know about the operation of the T3. While it will also teach you a bit about general digital photography as well, that is not it's main purpose. You'll need a more general book for that.

Not exactly.... in his first remarks it seems that he said it was a T3 but later he states:

Is your camera the T3 or the T3i? They are very different. My book recommendation was specifically for the T3 which you mentioned in your first post. I just realized you also referred to it as the T3i, a completely different camera. If you have the T3i, you need the following book by David Busch, the T3 book will not be appropriate.

Thanks Jeep_Daddy. Yeah I just saw that. Unfortunately, I recommended the David Busch book based on the original T3 post. I just posted a new response with the correct link for his model. I hope he can cancel his order from Amazon.
