Who said the following?

"I rise today to talk about America’s debt problem. The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Obama, 2006:

The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies...

...This year, the Federal Government will spend $220 billion on interest. That is more money to pay interest on our national debt than we’ll spend on Medicaid and the State Children’s Health Insurance Program. That is more money to pay interest on our debt this year than we will spend on education, homeland security, transportation, and veterans benefits combined...

...That is why I will once again cosponsor the Pay-go amendment and continue to hope that my colleagues will return to a smart rule that has worked in the past and can work again." --Sen. Barack Obama, March 16, 2006

8-) So this is the place they say the scumbags hang out 8-)
I ended up here one time when I was killed off like an actor in a Soap Opera :hunf:
Some guy called I'd never met called it a Cess Pool.
So I explained that's why I'd never met him before I guess.
This Quiz Question topic title sucks ass. It did not hint that it was political.
I don't know anything about that but I think the Clinton's are going to take over again soon.
They have a way of fixing that stuff that is unmatched in the history of the US. so .. just sit tight

Believe it or not CNN just told me something I didn't realize: we owe China 1 1/2 trillion dollars and we owe Japan 1 1/4 trillion dollars. They are both threatening us not to default. So according to op question who said it, it is all ready too late

The very fact that we "scumbags" are here harping, sputtering, chiding and insulting each other over the political situation in the US, is a very good indication that so far we STILL HAVE THE RIGHT TO DO SO!

BTW, the quote is from then-Senator Barack Obama in March, 2006, I believe.

One of the very rare times when he opened his mouth and a lie didn't come out.

In Honduras there are seven legitimate and recognized political parties, and anyone with the means to do so can run as an independent. The government does not interfere with peaceful assembly, and political rallies and protests are common. People here keep up on news from the US much more than you would think, and are constantly appalled by the obvious erosion of personal rights there. People here are fiercely protective of their constitutional rights, patterned closely after the US constitution, and are willing to fight, literally, to maintain them. An example is the Gualcarque river incident a few months ago, where several hundred Campesinos with machetes backed down an infantry detachment and a tank.

I feel far more personal freedom here than in the US, and I have no regrets being here. I know your reply was meant as a "dig" to imply the superiority of the US government over some banana republic. Many folks on this forum, including myself at times, like to blow off steam about politics, and say what we should do, or what we will do, but I see NONE that I would actually trust to back up what comes out of their mouths. When I see you standing with a machete in front of automatic rifles and a tank, I will believe the seriousness of your convictions. Until then, you're (collectively, not meant as a personal attack) just another blowhard.

Of course it was Obama the hypocrite who said that when he was a senator. The Republican-controlled House has passed 16 measures to fund parts of the government, while the Senate has rejected every effort. Senate Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) is pushing a $1.1 trillion debt ceiling increase through Dec. 31, 2014 -- after Election Day. It includes no spending reform whatsoever.

For his part, Barack Obama trotted out to a press conference yesterday to denounce Republicans, who he says shouldn't "demand ransom" for funding the government. Just to drill the point home, he used terms like "hostage-taking," "nuclear bomb," "extortion" and "economic chaos" to describe GOP tactics.

Aside from this verbal bludgeoning, he said he was "happy to talk" to Republicans "about anything" -- provided they pass a continuing resolution and raise the debt ceiling first. He even dared the House to pass a CR. Obama is clearly lying about his willingness to negotiate in a pathetic attempt to portray himself as eminently reasonable. And House Speaker John Boehner didn't bite: "What the president said today is if there's unconditional surrender by Republicans, he'll sit down and talk to us. That's not the way our government works."

Meanwhile, one stat you may have missed on the evening news is that the shutdown affects just 17% of the government. That's right: 83% of the government is up and running. But that hasn't stopped Obama from his singular mission to make people suffer. He even admitted that the reason for blocking partial funding and inflicting as much pain as possible is to make sure Republicans feel "political heat." The latest on that front is that the Pentagon is suspending death benefits for families of military personnel killed in Afghanistan. National parks remain barricaded, though an exception was made for illegal immigration activists at the DC mall.
