Typical Brit talking about the weather.

I was watching the weather forecast today. There was a map of the UK and the weather woman said "just look at all those isobars". When is the last time you looked out of your window and thought I don't like the look of those isobars? Just tell me if I need to take a coat with me.

When I was in The States the weatherman would say something like ".... And there's a 75% chance of precipitation" instead of "It's probably going to rain". Back to UK. I can understand warm fronts and cold fronts (I think) but what the hell is an occluded front?

Here in the States if a front comes from the north, the air is going to be cool and dry but coming from the south off the gulf of Mexico, the air is warm and humidity high. Of course, with all fronts, Cool air meeting warm air brings a rain storm, precipitation. That % chance of rain is confusing. It could be 80% chance of rain but never a drop of that wet stuff. Check the link below.

An occluded front, if I remember correctly from 'O' Level Geography, is when a cold front overtakes a warm front causing a marked curve in the frontal systems. Thus enabling the weathergirl to wave her hands about as though she is drying her nail polish. Personally my only interest is:-
a) am I going to get wet.
b) will I be able to stand up in the wind.
What else do you need to know?

an ocluded front is a condition in which a cold front runs under a hot front raising the hot air over it
