Pat Musi tuned 632 1038 hp on the motor, plus a 500hp Fogger run thru a nitrous controller to bring the power on gradually.
Car ran 8.40.s on he engine. Car could run 7.80's.
2nd nitrous pass driver lost a water hose, water under tire at the 1000 foot, car got sideways and hit the right wall.
800 feet of debris, and 60,000 dollars later it was over.

My brother/nephew is running a Pro Mod car I don't know the details; engine size (500+ci) but I do know it has a nitrous system. Here is a picture of it from our local drag strip

Since he wasted the Vega he built a turbo Camaro.
Great lookin cars.

NHRA limits engines to 500 CID
IHRA does not, I have seen a 69 Camaro at the local car meets sporting a 705 cid stroker rat ( he says it makes a "tad over 1000 hp", and I believe him).

Sweet lookin racer ya got there. what's it turn?

Track announcer said " He hit everything but the lottery"

I took a video of the car next day, not a lot to be saved. BUT The funny car cage did its job. He crashed at 5pm on Sat, he was home Monday.

I dunno, I think he won the only lottery that mattered. With enough duct tape, superglue, time and money, you can rebuild a car that's smashed to flinders. Drivers, not so much.

Tom broke his nose, suffered a compression blow out fracture on cheek bone, chest trauma ( no broken ribs) and the doctors had to hunt for his knee cap and wire it back in place. For a 160 mph crash he did very well).

Tom saved enough off the car ($ 25,000 engine) rear end components, gauges, controllers etc to stake a new ride.
nothing and I mean NOTHING on the vega body or chassis was straight enough to re use, the tail shaft of the trans was snapped.

Thanks as always for your visit and comment

It's called good luck that he survived (roll cage and all) but god bless him.
