We often wonder how our once fabulous country has gotten so screwed up. Here's one of the reasons. People in very powerful positions with the brain power of a cocka roach.

As the Supreme Court begins its new term Monday, the evil is not on the docket – but the Evil One apparently is on the mind of Justice Antonin Scalia.
New York magazine has published a fascinating new interview with Scalia in which the outspoken jurist tackled a number of topics. But none seemed to surprise Scalia's interviewer, Jennifer Senior, more than his views on Satan.
The interview was conducted on September 26, the 27th anniversary of Scalia's swearing-in as a justice on the high court. He is one of a record six Catholic justices on the Supreme Court.

After Scalia and Senior discussed heaven and hell (he believes in them; she doesn't), the justice said in a stage whisper, "I even believe in the devil."
"You do?" Senior replied.
"Of course! Yeah, he’s a real person. Hey, come on, that’s standard Catholic doctrine! Every Catholic believes that," Scalia said.

Senior asked Scalia if he's seen evidence of Satan's work recently.
"You know, it is curious," Scalia answered. "In the Gospels, the devil is doing all sorts of things. He’s making pigs run off cliffs, he’s possessing people and whatnot. And that doesn’t happen very much anymore. ... It’s because he’s smart."

While I consider myself a believer, I have never accepted that there was a devil (Satan), or hell. I just can't get my head around the idea that as a father no matter what my child did, nothing would ever make me want to have them spend the rest of their lives, much less an eternity in a place like hell. So how could an all loving and forgiving God do so? However that said, I'm not surprised that a devote Catholic would believe that, it's the doctrine of all Christian and the Jewish faiths, I think even Islam has a hell, I don't know if they have a Satin like figure though.

What does this have to do with anything? A Supreme Court job is to see if laws are constitutional or not. If they believe in a devil so what as long as they don't get it in the Law. One of the greatest things about our country is that we can believe what we want. So just believe what you want and let others believe what they want to - Dave

So, it's not Politically Correct to have opinions now? Would you vote for a Muslim that believed in Sharia law for POTUS? I don't see much difference in that than someone who believes that satan is a person. You don't think a person's belief system influences their decisions? I do. The SCOTUS interpretes whether a law is deemed constitutional or not as is influenced and guided by thier liberal, conservative or/and religious leanings. Of course, I advocate freedom of thought and expression and I also have the right to express my feelings about those beliefs as you just have.

Scalia should have kept quiet about the details of his religious beliefs, especially concerning the topic of Satan. He is a representative of the Justice system. He wouldn't have been invited to the interview if he was not on the Supreme Court. Although Scalia has proven several times in the past that he doesn't know when to be more discrete with his private thoughts in public. Perhaps he's not nearly so smart as he thinks he is.

Political wisdom would be to avoid the subject altogether. IMHO, I believe that many politicians pretend to have a religious affiliation to pacify the status quo. There would be nothing to gain politically if a candidate would claim to be an atheist. That would be political suicide, even though it may be true. I think even though Bill Clinton is listed as a Baptist he is actually an agnostic or atheist. Presidents with no specific denomination were Thomas Jefferson,
Abraham Lincoln and
Andrew Johnson.

That's what you and Jesus 'believe', right Steve? That Satan is a person? :?:

You seem to have it backwards - the believers are who The Prince of Darkness has in control - we non believers - in Satan, Hell, God & Heaven are the ones who have true piece of mind about the "after death" stuff. As well as life before death.

Again I prompt these believers to truly research the origin of Hell and the current "Satan"
