Shot these with a Panasonic FZ150, Vivitar 383 flash, Yongnuo flash trigger/receiver, Opteka honeycomb flash diffuser on the 383. Camera and flash hand held, with flash above and slightly left of the flower. Not sure of the focal length... maybe around 85mm or so....

Very good, you avoided the dreaded blow-out.

Thanks. I took some outdoors a few days ago and the reds were totally washed out from the sun. I was using a Polarizing filter, too. : (

Early light or evening light are the best.
I will drop the white balance a bit and sometimes it will save the photo.
White, red, black all seem to be difficult.

But when they work they're dramatic! Of course, red is my favorite color.... : )

Both nice shots but the second is better because of the black background.

Great color rendition and contrast.

Well done

Hi William,
I came to visit you yesterday but you were AOL at the shop. Stopped at a wireless internet hot spot about 30 miles further on and got onto UGLY and there you was logged on and sending some great pix.

Got into Orlando after that awful boring I10 crap. Its raining but warm rain 79 degrees at the moment and sweaty. No I remember why I dont like Florida any more. I was with Tilde for three days in 50 to 60 degrees, In Little Rock for 2 days at below 32 and now in this dump and sweating. Besides the torture of being away from my love.

Sorry I missed you.
