Vanilla Flavoring, Anyone???
I already knew about this but when I tell people they think I am crazy and just ignore it. It's used in many more items than you can imagine. 'Scuse me while I finish my morning yogurt....
I always wondered who was it that first dipped his finger in beaver-butt goo and put it to his tongue...What on earth was he thinking (I know it had to be a man because women just know better LOL)??? Actually, there are several animals we harvest glandular secretions from that contribute to our foods and hygiene products.
I definitely check the labels, now...

I know there was a reason I liked chocolate better.
Made from crushed insect cocoons known as shellac, which is used to coat foods and give them that special shine.
Found THIS on WebMD...

Castoreum is a substance collected from the glands of Canadian, European, and Siberian beavers.
People take castoreum for anxiety, restless sleep, and as a calming agent.
Women take it to start their menstrual periods or treat painful periods.
In foods and beverages, castoreum extract is used as a flavoring agent.
In manufacturing, castoreum tincture is used as a fragrance or fixative in cosmetics and soaps.
How does it work?
Castoreum seems to have calming and soothing effects.

And how about the first guy that ate an egg after he saw where it came from.
You know, when you think about it (and I try not to!), humans will eat just about anything:
Ox tails, Beef tongue, back fat, pork butt, giblets, pork feet, and that's just the common every day stuff. In Japan there's a restaurant that serves a variety of animal penises. I'm sure that in poorer countries starving folks will eat any thing they can get their hands on.
I prefer anything chocolate dipped :)
