Wide Angle Lens Choices

I'm trying to find a new wide angle lens for myT2i... and have identified the following 3 choices. Would appreciate your thoughts and alternate recommendations.

Tamron SP AF 10-24mm F3.5-4.5 Di II LD
Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM SLR
Sigma EX Wide-angle zoom lens - 10 mm - 20 mm - F/4.0-5.6 - Canon EF

I'm leaning towards the Tamron... but am not convinced... I don't have a particular application in mind... All I am sure of is that the lenses I have don't quite give me the range I need.

Thanks for your help!

Chris

Unless there is hundreds of $'s difference I try to go with the same brand as the camera. They are usually lighter weight and better glass. But if there's a $250 difference then the decision becomes difficult to justify. How about looking for used Canon lens?

Good thoughts.... The cannon is a couple hundred higher. Strangely enough... the used ones didn't seem to be appreciably cheaper on ebay...

If money isn't the biggest concern I would go with the Canon !

I just got the Sigma 10-12 for my Nikon, and could not be happier. Sharp, with very little distortion. Rarely take it out of manual focus, just set it for 3 feet and shoot with great depth of field. Just make sure you use the hood.

I have a 10-20mm Sigma and I'm very satisfied with it. I currently use it with my Nikon D300S camera. Arnold

I owned both the EFS 10-22 and the Tamron 10-24. The Canon lens has the advantage optically especially wide open and has near instant near silent focusing. the Tamron lens is well made though and if you buy new it comes with a 6 year warranty! Interestingly, when I changed to full frame I found that the Tamron was capable of covering full frame down to about 15mm! I'm currently using a Sigma 15-30 on my 5D2 which is great but prone to flare when shooting outdors anywhere near the sun! I love it for interiors though....

Personally, I will never buy another Sigma (do not attack me people, I said "personally".) I would stick with Canon. I'm not sure of these prices, but I would gather Canon is more. I would prefer a lower f-stop than these lenses (more $), even though wide angles tend to be used outdoors and these numbers would probably be fine. Like the ability to go to f2.8 if desired (for bokeh). I do own a 9 year old Tamron 17-34 2.8/4 that I absolutely love it's on my T2i 80% of the time.

Check out the Rokinon 8mm fisheye. All manual but only $289. Very fun lens. It would be easier if we knew what subject matter you wanted it for.

Yeah.. that's the thing. I'm not 100% sure myself. There are time, indoors, when I just can't back up far enough.... them ter are times out doors when I just feel like I need to include more....

I'm still such a newb though that a lot of it couild be in my mind.

All three are fairly good quality. Flip a three-sided coin...

The fact that even USED Canon's don't come down much in price should tell you something, though.

I have the Tokina 12-24mm and could not be happier. I also own the Tokina 10-17 fish-eye zoom which I love but would not recommend as it is a special purpose lens which not everybody would find useful.

Check out the 11-16 Tokina, great reviews and an awesome lens. Saved my Ass last weekend on a wedding shoot. The actual ceremony was on a 10x10 dock with couple plus four children and JP.

Well...indoors I use the Canon 35mm f2 and it's cheap...255.00 refurbed from Canon.

And I also have the Sigma 10mm-20mm that is killer indoors and out but the fstop is 4 so it's a little slower than the canon. I tend to keep it outside for landscapes.

I use a Tokina 12-24 f4 wide-angle zoomer with my D90 and couldn't be more pleased with the lens. I get excellent results from it and continue to be amazed at its sharpness and color rendition. SInce I use it outdoors 100% of the time (and with the supplied excellent lens hood), it's relative slowness is not a problem for me. One bonus item: the mechanism employed to change the lens from manual to autofocus and back is easy to use (darn near intuitive!), even when the camera is being held up to my eye!
