Their pay is protected by the 27th Amendment to the Constitution.

"No law, varying the compensation for the services of the Senators and Representatives, shall take effect, until an election of Representatives shall have intervened, reads the amendment, which was passed in 1992.

USA Today reports that the point of the law was to prevent members of Congress from voting a pay raise for themselves. But, it also protects them from taking a pay cut.

The Twenty-seventh Amendment (Amendment XXVII) prohibits any law that increases or decreases the salary of members of the Congress from taking effect until the start of the next set of terms of office for Representatives. It is the most recent amendment to the United States Constitution. It was submitted to the states for ratification in 1789 and was adopted, over 200 years later, in 1992.

Some of those politicians are donating their pay to Charity while the shutdown is going on....how nice of them....in the mean time other federal workers will not have money to put food on their family tables and Congress will use their charitable deductions on their taxes.

At least with feral hogs you can put a bounty on them and reduce their numbers therefore are much less of a threat than the pigs in the District of Criminals.
