So so sorry to hear about the passing of Thor. I understand your pain, I too had my constant companion and partner die suddenly. He was my search dog, his final deployment was 9/11. I still think of him everyday but feel grateful to have had such a wonderful partner in my life. Please know there are others who understand your pain and continue remembering all the wonderful times together.

you know! dang, i have to believe we'll see them all again!

My sympathy as well. My cat started acting odd and so I took her to the vet and found out she had cancer. He said maybe 3 months, it was more like a week. She just slept and barely ate. Then one after noon she went outside and turned to face the sun and just sat there with it warming her for 5 minutes and came back in and went into the kitchen and laid down and died. This was 7 years ago and still makes me cry. I think she knew and just wanted to see the sun one last time and then went in and gave up.

Thank you so much friends. I have been trying to keep the fun and very funny memories in my head. When I was first training him for protection work, making my husband put the bite gear on, and sending thor to "bite" him, LOL the look on my husbands face was priceless, oh boy!

More than a pet, more than a friend or partner. The bond between a K9 and handler is more spiritual. He gave his best to the end. It brought a tear to my eye.

My avatar died earlier this year (several years ago he had one eye removed by a nasty cat). My sympathy to you, catcher T. Do you have any other K9's in training?

I was a policeman for a lota years and understand your loss. Thor was much more than a pet. He was your partner. He was someone that you could put your life in his hands (paws) and know without a doubt that he before he let you down he would willingly lay down his life. The bond between a trained K-9 and his handler is much, much more than a pet and to find him like you did my heart felt sympathy goes out to you that you will be able to find solace and peace that you two will be together again.
I am so sad

this is thor, he was a trained k9, protection, crowd control, and civil agitation, he was trained to take the arm with the a gun, not knowing to probably take a bullet. He was level headed, when I fired him up he was on his feet, when I outed him he was ready for a pet on the head.
When I would be in Detroit I would open the window enough for him to come thru it and come to my aid.
He passed last Thurs. he was almost 12, and even the min before he passed, if I said his name he was on his feet!
I had gave him a treat and a pat in the kitchen, he took it and trotted off, I walked out for maybe 5mins, I came back in, the treat was on the floor and he was on his side laying next to it, I knew something was wrong, I screamed his name and ran to him, he had already passed, I held his head begging him to come back to me. Im sorry I needed sympathy. thank you for listening.

Sounds like you lost a great partner Catcher T. Like losing family. Hopefully he went fast and didn't suffer.

My heart goes out to you. I have had many pets come and go in my years and I know how hard it is. There is nothing like the unconditional love of a dog. You have probably seen or heaard this before, but I'll post it anyway.

The Rainbow Bridge

By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill,

Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.

Where the friends of man and woman do run,

When their time on earth is over and done.

For here, between this world and the next,

Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.

On this golden land, they wait and they play,

Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.

No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,

For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.

Their limbs are restored, their health renewed,

Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.

They romp through the grass, without even a care,

Until one day they start, and sniff at the air.

All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,

Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.

For just at that instant, their eyes have met;

Together again, both person and pet.

So they run to each other, these friends from long past,

The time of their parting is over at last.

The sadness they felt while they were apart,

Has turned into joy once more in each heart.

They embrace with a love that will last forever,

And then, side-by-side, they cross overÂ… together
