At the age of 66 years old I took my Grandaughter and her two babies to Fairbanks Alaska to be with her husband who was leaving for second tour in Iraq.

She was staying and so I flew out of Fairbanks, to Anchorage and then to Mesa, AZ. where my Daughter lived....

I was carrying a 3" Buck Knife in my left jeans pocked (Had been carrying it daily for over 25 years... and When I went through Security I was told I would have to give them the knife and could not take it on Plane... OR get a large shipping envelope down the hall and mail it home... WELL I wasn't going to give it to them.... so went and got the envelope.. When I returned There were 3 sort of large guys hanging around where I had left my carry on... OOOOOPS... I had a small "Olfa" razor knife and a holder of blades for it.. As far as I could remember they were put there about 6 years before when I was on a M/C TRIP... Well after much blabber, I was allowed to put those two items in the envelope, mail it home and board the plane...

I had a half hour wait in Anchorage, but went to security to get my clearance and be ready when the Plane loaded... OOOOPS.... "Just a minute sir, I will be right back" Hummmmm He returned approx 5 mins before my plane was to load..... OOOOOPS sorry sir, but would you come with me.... So away I went and I wish I could tell you that I was rubber hosed and water boarded, but it was not that serious. I was with them for almost 45mins, missed my flight and had to take another one an hour after that....

The next time I attempted to get tickets I was told that I was on a "NO FLY STATUS LIST". I hung up (I get tickets in advance on the phone) The next time I tried, the person on the phone was very nice and said, after I had explained to him what had happened... Sir, you will probably never get off this list, do you have a middle name... I said yes and he said, well the list does not note that... Why don't you buy tickets under your middle and last name...

And that is what I have done for the last 8 years...

I sort of like telling people that I am on a terrorist list though....

I take photos of trains all the time. I was told in Phoenix at the BN/SF yard that I could not do that.
Most railroaders just wave hello to me.
I took photos of planes landing at the Phoenix airport and just told the guard that approached me that I was a amature photographer.

I love to take pics of airplanes. You know those big big windows at airports.

At each one I ask a TSA or Security if there is any problems in taking photos through those 'public' glass windows and have basically been told ' It's a free world, go ahead'

It is , a quiet and interesting place to be .
I'm there almost every week trying to see if I can find a better subject while walking in the trails and relaxing .
Watch out if you drive in , speed limit are 30 miles , and they don't give you too much to play with

Worked a lot of years with the RR. Always had strokers (people who take photographs of trains). For the most part - no problem, but in recent years with all the suing for when people get hurt on RR property, RR's have taken a "no policy" to allow unauthorized people on the property. You can take pictures to your hearts' content from off property. Roads, bridges, public land, and with permission private land owners. Yes I knew some strokers who would get permission from land owners before entering their property.

As for the snowboarder and criminal charges - No different than jumping off tall buildings with a parachute or scaling them, bunggie jumping off bridges, going over Niagara Falls. All illegal activities at most localities. These people get arrested.

No different than knowing your friends were going to rob a bank and you are there to video it. You are an accessory to the fact. Ignorance of the law is not a defense, I didn't know anything about it was illegal to be accessory to the fact. You get charged for even video taping it.
