Hi guys. I have anikon fs 50mm 1.4g lens and would love to add a teleconverter or more to obtain a 200mm focal length. How many stops would I loose? would I still be able to stay on or bellow 2.8?

You would need to put on two 2x converters which would result in losing the equivalent of 4 stops and the resulting image quality would really suffer. Don't even think about it!!

A "Cheap" 200mm would probably cost less than 2 good 2x teleconverters to get to that point and give better results!!

He could probably get a decent 200mm lens for a little more than the cost of the teleconverters with better image quality.

Go to http://www.nikonusa.com/en/Nikon-Products/Product/Camera-Lenses/2189/AF-S-Teleconverter-TC-20E-III.html and click the "Teleconverter Compatibility Table" link. Your lens isn't listed. Even if it worked, I don't think you'd like the quality of your pictures.

A 2 x converter will not give you 200mm with this lens!

get a good 200mm f 2.8, then you might try a 2x teleconverter.

Nikon makes a 180mm f/2.8 that's reasonably priced (for Nikon, that is)/

You should read ecobin's reply once again.. it does not say "A" 2X converter. What ecobin stated is that it would take "TWO" 2X converters. This makes a difference in your perspective, however does not make your statement incorrect. Your subjection is right in that "A" 2X converter would not make the 50mm lens in question equivalent to a 200mm lens.
