I don't think this is universally the case. My daughter works as a graphic designer for the Marine Corps (Corpse?) and just got furloughed. She is not allowed to "work in the meantime" with no pay, as she would gladly do, especially if she were to be paid retroactively. However, according to the memo announcing the furlough, she will not be paid for time off, since this is unpaid leave. I'm sure there many other such cases across the country.

WHAT. That is remarkable that someone serving in the military would have that happen to them and not give them the ability to earn while they are off. But when they get orders to go into a combat zone again, they have no choice but to go. I thought us Vietnam vets got treated like crap, this is even worse than that.

Ha Ha, same the world over, The UK never mentioned it`s own debts while they moaned about how much Spain owed. :D

Makes me wonder do we all owe the same creditor. If so what happens if we all have the loans called in and being unable to pay then go into default? Scary

So there is no misunderstanding, she is a CIVILIAN working for the Marine Corps as a government employee. I don't want anyone to think they are doing such things to active military.

Thanks for making that clear but I do feel bad for her regardless. She is out of work throuh no fault of her own. Maybe this will get resolved quickly.

Since ALL of them will be retro - paid IN FULL full as soon as the governmnet is open for business again , why are they told to stay home and sit on their fat asses ?

what prevents them from continuing to work in the meantime ???

Speaking as an outsider (way, way outside) I must say that thought occurred to me too. From what I've seen on TV (never the most accurate source of information) these people will be paid "eventually". So what is the point in them staying home, why not go to work and be productive.
Just an outsiders point of view, not trying to tell you how to run your country.
