Took this outside my home yesterday. First time I have seen one in a lay down position. Taken with a 55-200 on my D5100.

Thank you. Did crop, but was happy with the feathers sticking out and being fairly sharp. Can't wait to purchase a better lens.

Thank you to all who responded. We have several groups of these that are in our community. Most of the time, you can get fairly close to them.

I crash...er, I mean, fly an Extra Big Stick. ;-)
I love them! I lived 5 miles from the Nature Reserve where I am waiting for the Sandhills to come this fall. They also stay across the street from us ( in the corn fields) (as you can see, I live in the county) Every morning and evening flying overhead (our house)
Pretty much year round here in south Florida!
