IRS Loses $67 Million In Taxpayer Dollars Set Aside For Obamacare

September 27, 2013 by Sam Rolley

The Internal Revenue Service has lost track of $67 million spent from a slush fund set up to for the implementation of Obamacare, according to a Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) report.

A slush fund called the “Health Insurance Reform Implementation Fund” (HIRIF) was included in the healthcare law in order to help the IRS cover the cost of new tax provisions that will come with Obamacare. It contained nearly $1 billion of taxpayer money to roll out enforcement mechanisms for the approximately 50 new tax provisions.
But TIGTA claims that IRS officials failed to account for large sums of money used from the slush fund.

From the report: “We also found that the IRS did not track all costs associated with implementation of the ACA, including costs not applied to the HIRIF. Specifically, the IRS did not account for or attempt to quantify approximately $67 million of indirect ACA costs incurred for FYs 2010 through 2012.”

According to TIGTA, the IRS plans to have spent $360 million on Obamacare implementation in fiscal 2013, which ends Sept. 30.

Despite the lofty sum of taxpayer dollars being pumped into getting the IRS ready for Obamacare implementation, the TIGTA report concedes that the Nation’s tax collection agency “lacks complete information regarding the full cost of [Affordable Care Act] implementation.”

“This lack of complete information on ACA implementation costs limits the IRS’s ability to accurately report to stakeholders the total resources it applied to the ACA implementation and fully estimate the resources needed in the future for this effort,” the report states.

The IRS responded to the report, saying it “takes seriously its obligation to be good stewards of government resources.” The agency agreed with the report’s recommendations and has begun applying them.

Then Gitzo added;

Not sure what all of this really means, but it sure doesn't sound like "good news" to me. (It does tie-into something I just responded to in another thread about the IRS and the ACA.)

"TIGTA also found that the IRS did not track all costs associated with implementation of the ACA including costs not charged to the HIRIF. Specifically, the IRS did not account for or attempt to quantify approximately $67 million of indirect ACA costs incurred for Fiscal Years 2010 through 2012."

So, what you are saying is that Sam Rolley is "wacko", and Forbes is "wacko", all because "HFB" in NW Louisiana says so, right ?

Is it just barely possible that Sam Rolley and Forbes are both "credible" and that "HFB" in NW Louisiana is the "wacko"?

You "low-information, lib voters" are all alike; you think anything any liberal says or writes is the gospel truth, but ANYTHING that ANYONE says or writes that doesn't support the Obummer, liberal, secular-progressive, "low-information" line of nonsense is automatically "wacko"? (BTW....what planet was that you say you came from?)

That's ok they will get it back when I and others get "fined" for not having health care. As I prefer to pay cash when I have a health care need and that will soon be illegal.

Hmmmm... Kinda makes me wonder where the dems get their war-chest to fund reelection campaigns -- besides from the heavy hitters in Hollywood who proudly proclaim that they support liberal platforms and reps.

I have been paying cash for years.
I asked the question "If we have the ability to pay for our own health care why should we be made to buy insurance?" I did not get any good answers, some stupid ones "because it is the law" but no good ones.
I know that there are people that use the emergency room and do not pay but they should go after them.
How about this idea. If you haven't paid your bill you get no more services? It works everywhere else
Obamacare has some good parts but some bad ones need to be fixed.

Losing track of big money in most large organizations is really very common. That is why they have audits.

If memory serves, when WWII started Ford was asked how much it costs to produce a car and they replied that they had no idea! Shortly thereafter, cost controls were introduced.

Usually the money is found and usually accounted for. Most often the loses are found to be acct tracking number errors.

Thus, this report is not as shocking as it appears to be.

It is good that you defend waste and corruption in the government, it shows you're an intelligent man. :hunf:

I don't know all the details of "Obama care", but it seems to me that once again it comes down to which paper you choose to believe, and that is dictated by the opinions you already have. To quote from a republican newspaper "People such as scientist Stephen Hawking wouldn't have a chance in the UK, where the National Health Service would say the life of this brilliant man, because of his physical handicaps, is essentially worthless,"

Here's a link:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/6017878/Stephen-Hawking-I-would-not-be-alive-without-the-NHS.html

The fact is you will never stop the press, the media, your bosses, the government or any authority from pissing down your back. But you don't have to believe them when they tell you it's raining.

And obummer gave the IRS control over this money pit they call the health care plan. They cant even collect all the tax owed them They take people to court to collect and only get a very small porsion of whats owed. Proubley court cost is more than they can collect. If people cant afford to buy and are fined for not buying how are they going to pay the fine?? Here we go again it goes down to us to take up the slack. Same old same old. Isnt that what is been happening now when they go to the emergeny room with a cold and are treated for free and the cost gets passed on to the rest of us. Our country just cant afford obummers pay back for those no voter ID voters. He will be leaveing office a millionare and the country will be so far in debt with no way out. Hes been cutting money from every thing he can get his hands on except his vacations. We need to vote them all out. The sooner the better. Wake up republems and democrats we are loosing our country right from under our noses.

Man, if you people want to shock me with some news about the government, just show me a time when it was efficient. Not just this but any government.
So the IRS can't account for a few million bucks during Obama administration, or the Bush administration didn't know where a few billion went in Iraq. Big hairy deal. Hell, it's only money and there is more where it came from. If they can't squeeze more out of the people, they can print more or borrow it from China.
Rather than griping, you people just make sure you keep putting the same idiots back in the office. I mean, god forbid, you don't want to get rid of all those inept politicians who are diligently providing you with opportunity to constantly bitch about them.

Have a nice day.
