Good morning all. I looked on the topic list and could not find anything on photos printed on acrylic. Looking on the internet I find that you can get prints on acrylic without backing (light can come through the back) and with backing to keep the light from coming in through the back. My question is does it make any difference in the life and quality of the picture? All thoughts will be appreciated (excepted for the SA ones). Thanks and have a great week-end.

ALF, I would have to think that it would make particular difference where you are going to mount the picture and what type of light, if any, would be showing through. UV is particularly hard on inks, toners and stains so sunlight will cause degradation of the print over time (how much time would be determined by the quality of the print and how much sunlight it is exposed to). Keep in mind that sunlight is not the only light source that emits UV. Many man-made sources, including fluorescent lights, emit UV to a more or less extent so these can also have an effect.

Thanks Pic, I am going to sell whatever I print. I was looking for a tuff alternative to glass and canvas. I sell at my local farmer's market and between loading and unloading I have managed to damage some of my glass and canvas. The companies I looked at on the the internet were pushing their type of prints. No backing said the picture looked better with light coming in the back side and the backing folks said the backing helped protect against UV rays. I also print on metal which seem to be the most durable. Thanks again.

Try Red River paper folks. They have both types of paper available, and would more likely be less bias. Just a thought..DJT
