I purchased a used vr 2.8 70-200 nikon lens for $1200 from b & h last winter. It was rated check plus. As I used the lens, I was confused and dissatiafied as to the focusing ability, etc. i was unable to bring it back in the 30 day warranty time. Subsequently, I brought it to phototech and incurred 450$ in repairs, in the focus ring , focus operation, etc.

Who would I write to at B & H to tell them of my disappointment that they would sell an item and give it such a high rating?

Thank you.

Audrey

I doubt that it will do much good. You could write their rep on this forum, perhaps something might be done.

The name is Hershel, send a PM.......It can't hurt.

Just wondering why you did not contact them at least by phone or email at the time. What are you wanting them to do about the problem at this time? I have found them to be an excellent company, but even excellent ones can sometimes make mistakes.
You could probably sell it back to them. But you would still probably be out the money you spent for the repair.
I do understand your frustration with having to pay for repairs for an item recently purchased, but I believe it is too late for B & H to cover the costs or refund your money.

What I can't believe is that you paid for a repair, when things are guaranteed for a year, you state that you could not take it back as THIRTY DAYS had passed, I assume therefore it was pre owned.

Why could you not take it back or at least have called them

Why would anybody pay $450. for a lens repair before calling the vendor. You may be beyond help.

It's difficult to see how B&H can "make you whole" at this point: you used the lens and it's been repaired without giving them a chance to respond/see it in that condition. It's entirely possible that the focus ring issue happened during your use of the lens. Not accusatory, but that is a possibility.

Did you download & read the manual prior to use? Some autofocus mechanisms can be broken without proper use.

I just checked and B&H's warranty on used and refurbished items is only 90 days.

90 days is ample time to test out used gear. OP had 90s days to discover the problem and be made whole by B&H.

You have no valid complaint OP, as you had ample time to contact B&H and get it addressed by them.

You learned a great lesson about used gear. Test it when it gets to your doorstep.

There is something fishy about this whole thing...and certainly B&H isn't at fault.

Another B&H rep is henryp. Also you can contact the aforementioned Hershel, but his specialty is online marketing. Both are members here and respond to PM's.
