I have a Canon 7D that I got mainly for sports and wildlife. I have started shooting landscapes and wonder what full frame you would recommend. I will be keeping the 7D as I like it for what I use it for. People have started requesting some of my landscapes and I know with the full frame I can print larger photos. Does not have to be a new model.
Thanks for your comments and suggestions.

These days you can get a new 5D MII for around $1500, that's a bunch cheaper than the 6D. Being used to shoot with the 7D, you 're probably not going to be impressed by the AF system, but if you mainly be using it for landscape, you probably care less. I think it'll be a good choice!

If you can afford the cost, I definitely would go with the 5D3 instead of the 6D. Recently there's been a firmware update that allows f8 focus.

What this means is you could use a 5.6 lens with a 1.4x extender and still get autofocus. Only the 1Dx and the 5D3 are capable of this unless you have an older 1D Mark IV for instance.

An absolute gift to have for your wildlife photography.

I had the same decision.

I added the 5D Mark III...its controls are similar to the 7D (that's good) and the expanded focus and low light capability was spectacular (that's good)...yes it was pricey (that's bad). I found the e-book Canon 5D Mark III by Klostermann a great help. David Busch's Compact Field Guide for the 5D Mark III was a waste of money.

Just came back from Africa, the 7D and the 5D MarkIII were a great duo.

Good luck
I am looking to go to Africa in 2 years and that is another reason I was looking at a full frame.

Your 7D is capable of 16 X 20 if you have a very good lens. Try shooting with Canon L lens. User a Tripod and shoot with low ISO and Aperture of f11. Last but least, use manual focus and take your time to check image, and shoot with mirror up and use a remote shutter release. One extra bit of information, use a hood and increase setting for a bit more contrast and coloration. And if you still want a great camera and have the money to burn, I would definitely go with a 2DMIII or even better the 1DX. Have fun.

I already shoot as you mentioned. I print a 13x19 and it looks good but have had people ask for larger. Thanks for the info.

Not to pick nits but where are you finding NEW Mark II's for $1500?

Adorama wants $3100:
http://www.adorama.com/ICA5DM2.html

B&H doesn't even list them anymore:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt=canon+eos+5d+mark+ii&N=0&InitialSearch=yes&sts=ta

Amazon shows 1, at $2999
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_1_8?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=canon%205d%20mark%20ii&sprefix=canon+5D%2Caps%2C301

Cameta Camera doesn't show any at all, neither does Abes of Maine.

I can see USED for $1500, all over ebay but not NEW.

Less than a month ago I was in the same situation. I kept my 7d and use it right along side of the new 5dM3. i am amazed with the full frame, but not sorry I put it off this long. I did my share of homework and found the 6d to be a stepping stone to the 5d. My coin flip was between the mark2 and mark3. I am glad I spent a tad more for the M3. I have a ton to learn but welcome the challenge. While shooting my nephews football games I am sideline with both the 7d and the 5dM3. Good luck in your quest.

Ditto here Canoe 50d. I waited until I could afford the Mk lll and my only regret is that I had to trade in my 7D for it. Amazing camera, and I read here that it has fixed some of the complaints of the Mk ll so I can't imagine getting a Mk ll, even a used one, for a lower price.

But no one has mentioned lenses. The Mk lll will not take any of the "S" lenses that my 7D did, like the kit lens 15 - 85, which I loved! Now I'm waiting to re-purchase a 7D as my 2nd camera. The lenses I had are brilliant with the full frame camera they were designed for, especially the Sigma 150 DG Macro. Dave

You didn't read all the posts, I did mention them. When I got my 6D I changed two of my lenses so I can use any of my lenses on either type of camera body.

I only have one "S" lens. The rest will work with the full frame cameras. Thanks

I just bought a refurbished 5D Mark III from Canon USA for $2799.21 with free shipping. Awesome camera and all firmware updates were done. They also have a refurbished 6D for $1599.20.
