The attached photo was taken with my D300 @ ISO 3200. No flash and no enhancements. Was converted from NEF to JPG by Photoshop. After I did a little cleanup with Topaz DeNoise the photo is virtually noise free with almost no lose in detail. I know this may not be a surprise to D300 owners but I have had this D300 less than a week and came from a D200. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! Had I known what the D300 was capable of over the D200 I would had made the change a long time ago.
LIGHTNING, MY LAZY LAB
Have had my D300 from it's inception-would not trade it for anything out there! It is a fine machine and uses the DX & FX lens equally well. Enjoy your new life with D300 !!

Question is why did you not go straight to D800???
I had (still have, took it back) a D300 and the difference is incredible.
The D300 feels like a toy now.
By the way, the color balance is off.
I know, the color balance was mis-set.
I would get a D700 but do not have 3000+ laying around.
The D300's are workhorses. Just returned fro an Alaska Cruise on the Island Princess. They use D300s camers for all the passenger photos, about 5,000 images per week per camera. They have them rebuilt as needed, according to one of the photographers.
