I need to get anew lap top, last 2 were Toshibas. I want to get a good one this time, I do all my pictures on a lap top. I have been lookng at a Sony Vaio Fit 15E. Has anyone used this lap top and is it good for doing all the PP. I recently bought Lightroom 5, but can't use it now because the lap top died. Any thoughts on a good lap top for this type of work. Preferbably under $850.00
Thanks
I thought I saw a MAC $1000 recently - looked to be a good deal. Might still be available. My friend has a MAC and it sure looks amazing for photos, if the learning curve isn't a problem.
I did have a Sony it too died on me but it lasted a good 5 years for me.
I have had a Sony, Toshiba, IBM and now a Dell. My next one will be a MAC. Many of the shooters I know used them.

I would go with the Mac. They have a lot longer life. I've had three. Only one crashed, but it was over ten years old. I have the Mac Book Pro and MacBook Air and the Pro is already about ten years old. The Air is two, going on three. Of course, a lot of people are addicted to PCs, so it depends on what you want to try.

If ya want the best Doc ..... get a Mac ..... any Mac ..... you won't be sorry ..... they're more than all the others but the price is justified .....
I bought an iMac recently and have no complaints. Going from pc to Mac was pretty easy. I use the iMac a lot but I kept the laptop to be portable. When the laptop dies, I will replace that with a Mac as well. They might be pricey but they just work.

They're all crap and mostly Chinese. I'd go for a Gaming laptop if I were to be buying another one because it will be equipped with oversize power supply, over-abundant video memory, plenty of RAM, and top quality everything so it can handle the load required for the massive graphics of games. Photos and videos are also graphic heavy so it's a perfect fit. They're not cheap but they should hold up better than normal laptops.
For me a PC or a Mac makes no differences. It is what is inside that I look for. Like marcomarks said, a gaming Computer is your best bet. What is the size of the CPU, who makes the video and how much video memory, what brand is the mother board and what is the speed of the motherboard (HP uses an Asus in most of their machines). What kind and what speed is the memory. What kind and what size is the hard drive. What size is the screen that you want. Don't worry about how much the machine weighs. And keyboard layout. I like the full size layout with keypad. One more thing. The difference between Intel and AMD is the price. AMD is cheaper but I prefer an Intel. People who buy a computer according to the price get what they pay for. I brought an HP for $1,200. A friend said he saw HP's for as little a $300. Question, who got the better deal? Mine could play all the hot games, his didn't have the power. Buy what you want but know what you are buying.
I bought a refurbished HP Envy w/ 12gb ram, 2tb disk for under $800 at tigerdirect.com. Second refurbed system I bought from them and am happy. I'm giving my old one to my Daughter because it's still kicking. I recommend you check them out.

For 850 you get an average laptop, nothing else.
If you want a 'good one' multiply this by 2 or 3 and if you want a REALLY good one, break the piggy bank, sell your first son, your right arm and purchase something like the AlienWare M18x (Dell made). Made for gamers but that damned thing is the best thing for demanding photographers...
Case is made in aluminum, screen is glass, 18" memory can go up to 16GB, fast video, fast CPU... A desktop hiding in what is after all a door stop because the damned thing is heavy and a hog when it comes to batteries...
I purchased the M17X in 2007 and it is still fast compared to most other laptops, including mac...

Many photographers and musicians use Mac. It has many programs that work well for them on a Mac. I would go for a speedy computer, one set up for photo processing and gaming. It really makes a difference. I have owned Sonys, Toshibas, Dells, Hps,lenovas, Acers, Gateways, homemades, etc. I have built computers that put most Macs to shame on speed. All manufacturers have gaming computers, and that should work for you. I have one computer now that is set up for photo processing with LR, PS, Cyber Director 11, NIK, OnOne,etc. It is a Dell with a very fast i7procesor, 12gbs memory, discrete ATI Video card, heavy duty fans, multiple disks, and more. Works perfectly. You get what you pay.

Question....If you currently have an HP will your Lightroom, Photoshop, etc. load into the MAC? I thought that you must have software compatible with the MAC & not a regular PC.
