Funny how plants and animals sense coming weather before it actually arrives. The slightest changes will go either un-noticed or ignored by humans, but the beasts and the beauties know and begin to prepare for the seasons changes. This year was a good year for roses despite bugs and summer heats best efforts and as if to say "hey, we did good" and now it's time to relax a bit, the buds slow down as they begin to prepare for the oncoming cold of winter.

Nice, very beautiful. Roses here are finished. Any that remain are stunted and have very little fragrance.

Now its time to capture the colors of fall. Slip on your jacket and get out and shoot while the woods are full of color. ;)

Unfortunately the scents are for the most part gone with the exception of the deep red Hybrid T's and a few of the English and Shrub roses. I guess cross breeding took most of the beautiful scents away.

We are a bit spoiled. We lived in VT for a few years. Competition is not even close in the midwest. About now is the best time in New England.

Yes you do and we have Sophie the English Black Lab, who actually is a Queen who runs the place. She is one of 3 that we have had as company over many years. The other two were hunters and I can't break brush anymore. So we have Sophie who is completely worthless except as to being a kind and gentle companion for us and a trusted and loved playmate for our 16 grandchildren. She also loves lakes and hates a bath.
