The La Cygne coal fired power plant sits awash in late evening sun.

This 30 year old facility is under going a $1.23 billion environmental retrofit upgrade. When completed in 2015 this plant will be one of the cleanest coal-fired generating station in the country. This project will require over 2.5 million man-hours by the time it is finished.

wrr: I postulate that the 1.2 billions dollars invested in this plant upgrade will result in a small decrease in emissions, and a significant increase in the facilities COE - cost of electricity. Guess who will pay!

Cool image wrr...been past this facility many times. Photographed it a couple times too. When I was a teenager, made the Missouri to Kansas run to buy beer when the legal age was 18 in Kansas. I remember seeing it during construction which took place 24 hours a day. Good memories, hung out in Amsterdam a few times too.

Cool shot! I35 and the tracks are just a few blocks from my house. I live two blocks south of 75th and Antioch. I feel sorry for those who have to use Johnson drive every day. It is amazing that those coal drags come all the way from the Powder River Basin. Constant day and night!

Thats interesting James, now as Kansans, we make the Kansas to Missouri run for Sunday beer...at least those that drink do...! Asbury on 171 so. of Pittsburg has the cheap gas, cheap cigarettes and the Sunday beer. When I used to smoke I made the trip there many times...
