The camera in 1 was probably a graphic camera, used to shoot entire newspaper pages after graphic artists cut and pasted/ laid up the page into a "Mechanical". They were often not continuous tone- but lithographic - black and white with no greys. They would then use the resulting negative to make a 100% sized contact exposure to make the zinc plates that mounted in the big newspaper web printers. But I imagine they could be used for continuous tone- be tough to lug it around! LOL

While not quite this large, I have seen similar sized bellows cameras in print houses that still have some of their old equipment hanging around. They would have a hallway shaped room dedicated to the one camera. They were made of metal though... the wood is a nice touch!

If you found this interesting about old equipment... I have also seen in use and later collecting dust, hot type machines that melted and cast lines of type in lead, and rows of type trays full of metal and wood fonts... The lead "hot type" was still in use in 1979 in Pittsburgh to print books in letter presses, basically the same principles the Guttenburgh bibles were printed with. Printers keep these old Heidelberg letter presses around to die cut and or score printed pieces... working great and some 100 or more years old.

Thanks for the link!
