I have a Nikon D7000 with 2 sd cards. Even though I set the camera to use the card in slot 2 as overflow every shot I take is recorded in RAW and JPEG. This is new. I never had the problem before. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Go to the shooting menu (picture of camera) and scroll down to image quality. Hit okay and change it there

Good Luck!

You must have changed your settings by accident. Go to the menu if you want to change back.

Don't feel that way as I done the same thing yesterday. A friend convinced me to try raw.

It happened to me by mistake also...didn't know until I downloaded.
I am sure it will happen again too!

You are in good company!

There are no things you can run into that several of us haven't already done. These are complicated machines for most of us and you can't let it bother you. Have fun and keep shootin'. Mike

Ha ha, we have all been there, sometimes our mess ups teach us more than our successes.

I always save in both. I want the raw file in case I ever need it and basic jpeg for uploading to the net.

Look on your menu. It will show RAW only, and RAW plus 3 qualities of JPEG, and 3 qualities of JPG only.>

Don't think that's a disadvantage; its one way of learning. It's the people who think they're too clever too seek advice that never learn anything new.

What to do with that second slot is always a question - overflow or backup? I found that if you have no card in slot #1, images will be saved to slot #2 - good safety feature.

I use a D800E and I shoot in both RAW and JPEG. I do a lot of photography for pleasure and for work. After a photo session I throw away everything that isn't going to be used and I keep the RAW files only if I expect to do some editing which happens frequently. The JPEGS don't handle manipulation nearly as well. The negative to all of this is that I fill up Terrabytes of memory.
